leaders/alliances?!

Hi all!

I'm new to this game and getting really addicted

but i have some small questions, i saw many many pics of leaders/army's on some sites but how do you ever get such units :/ 5 min. ago i saw a picture of a scientific leader.. how do you get them

and i'm a bad negiotater with other country's so i cant even find out how you can get a alliance with an other country..

can you please help me out because this game is soooooo good i used to play civilization 2 when i were young but now i found civ3 with conquest i'm addicted more then ever

Military leaders, used to create armies, are sometimes created when an elite unit wins a battle, though not against barbarians. Scientific leaders sometimes appear when you're the first to discover an advance. The chance is 3%, and 5% for a scientific civilisation.

and i'm a bad negiotater with other country's so i cant even find out how you can get a alliance with an other country..

Establish an embassy with that civilisation first. Once you have writing, you can set up embassies by either double clicking the dot within your capital's star or pressing the small button marked 'E' on the botton right corner of the screen. It'll cost you a bit of cash each time, but once you have one you can negotiate military alliances, letting you bribe other civs into fighting your enemies.
