I'm sure just about everyone has wondered at some point or another how those F11 Screen numbers are calculated. Some are obvious, as they're just direct numbers taken from the game, but as for the rest--well, it's anyone's guess. Here's the items on the F11 Screen:
Approval Rating - Expressed as a Percentage.
Population - Simply the Sum of all the populations of all of your cities.
GNP - In millions, this is one that's going to need a lot of research.
Manufactured Goods - In megatons, also is going to need research.
Land Area - In square miles, is just the number of land tiles within your borders * 100.
Literacy - In a %, I've got my own theory on this.
Disease - Also in a %, not sure how this is calculated.
Pollution - Expressed in Tons, and is just the # of polluted tiles in your territory.
Life Expectancy - This is an interesting one. Expressed in years.
Family Size - Probably ties in with Life Expectancy. Expressed in children.
Military Service - In years.
Annual Income - I think this has something to do with GPT flow.
Productivity - The sum of all shields produced in all cities. Not sure if it's before or after corruption, though.
Theories:
Approval Rating
I think this has something to do with happy/content/unhappy citizens. The following formula is untested, but I think it might be how it works:
(a*Happy Citizens + b*Content Citizens) / Total Citizens * 100
Where a and b are constants. A is probably 1 and b is .5, or in another scenario:
(Happy Citizens - Unhappy Citizens) / Total Citizens * 100
(Note that "citizen" refers to one Population Point in a city.)
However, these need tested, so don't trust me on these.
Literacy
This goes back to referring to population points again.
Each library "covers" all citizens up to 6 in a city.
Each university "covers" all citizens from 7-12 in a city.
Each research lab "covers" all citizens 13 and over in a city.
Count up the number of covered citizens and divide by the total.
Disease
I think this just has to do with the number of citizens working disease-prone tiles(Jungle, Flood Plains), and expressed as a percentage of total citizens.
Annual Income
I'm thinking this is the total amount of gold generated by all cities, after all improvements are considered, including Treasury, Science, and Happiness money, and divided by the total number of citizens. Not sure if Tax Collectors or Producing Wealth effects this.
