I wonder if I have found an interesting mechanic in the "warmonger" calculations.
I played as France and shared a continent with Montezuma, Theodora and Haile Selassie.
Montezuma ate up Byzantium pretty quick and then threatened me with a shuffle of doom. I pre-emptively attacked and instantly got a warmonger diplo hit with Ethiopia ( I suppose they are extra sensitive due to personality) however when I took a Byzantine city and chose to return it to Theodora rather than keep it, the warmonger diplo penalty was taken off!
Does this mean you can take on a runaway civ and, so long as you don't keep too many of their conquered cities, you won't be seen as a warmonger?
Has anyone else found this?
