limited buildings and techs

I'm just starting my first civ4 mod after reading through the forum and playing the game for a while.

I want to use only certain buildings and techs in the mod (like the ww2 scenarios that only have modern or scenario-specific techs).

I set up a new mod folder like the tutorials recommend.
I went into the BuildingInfos file and deleted some buildings and removed the pre-reqs from others (buildings I want available to everyone at start instead of after researching a certain tech). When I ran the mod its name appears in the upper right corner of the screen, but when the game starts none of the buildings w/o pre-reqs appear on the list of buildable structures. I did find the cache folder and deleted it - according to the forum this should be done regularly while modding.

This (or something similar) happens when I try to play the Pirate Islands mod. I can see in the xml that there are pirate leaders and civ, but they do not appear in the list when I choose my civ to play. Everything seems to be in the xml, but nothing shows up in game!

Any helpful ideas?

I have successfully added new buildings, units, and unit skins in this mod - it's the pre-reqs that seem to trouble me.

I really don't get this. I removed all of the entries in my mod's buildinginfo file - every one. I then dumped the cache again and ran the mod. Imagine my surprise when I found that all of the buildings were still available normally. Where does this info come from? It seems to me that I shouldn't be able to build anything.

HELP!!!

I've had similar problems. When I go to trash the cache folder sometimes it's there (where one of the forum threads said it would be) and sometimes there isn't a civ 4 cache. I had a heck of a time finding it at all the first time. The thread suggests deleting this folder before running a changed mod, but now I can't find it at all (even looking through all files and folders containing the word cache. Computer voodoo.

I tried to duplicate what you've done with the buildingsinfo file and had the same result. I can add a new building, but can't seem to delete any. Even a blank file allows me to build a barracks on the first turn, just like normal. It must be able to be done , though, because there are mods and scenarios I've played that do not have all of the standard buildings available.

Have you tried to delete extraneous units the same way?
