Limited Resource Battle

Not sure if this should be under the user created section but I figured here would work.

I am currently playing a game with 5 AI on the scenario called "Warlust." I have Civ 3 Gold so I am not sure if it is from the original or from the expansion. I attached a photo so you can see the map.

Anyhow, the description of the game states that there are ample resources but I find this to not be true. Currently there is no aluminum anywhere on the map and there is only one oil resource located on the bottom left island. Carthage was able to take over most of the left side of the map which allowed them to get the oil resource. I soon realized that I needed to get the oil resource or else they would be able to over power me with stronger units (especially naval units). I was able to capture the island with the oil and now I am the only one with oil. It would be nice if there were two oil resources so I could do some decisive trading, but I probably wouldn't since no civilization would trade horses with me in the beginning. :D

Overall, I actually found it really fun to battle over the oil resource and I would like to battle over limited resources again in my next game. Do scenarios have the same resource location every time? Are there any user-created maps that are designed to create battles over limited resources?

Do scenarios have the same resource location every time?

Yes. Because they are built in the map editor, they will always have the same location. THere are the possibilities of "We have exhausted our source of ____" or "We have discovered a new source of _____", but they will always be in the same location.

I don't know of any other scenarios like that, but I'm sure you could find one! Take a look around the Civ 3 Creation and Customization section, they should have plenty for you.
And welcome to CFC!

Ah, you're a regular poster I see!

I think it is from neither. Gold is Vanilla + Play the World + fan made material. This is probably a map from a fan, one who forgot about putting enough late game resources in.

It's awfully long ago that I fired Civ III Gold up, but I believe the symbol before the name of the map betrays with which editor the map has been made. The symbols visible in your screenshot are from Vanilla.
It could be that most of the scenarios in Civ 3 Gold were still made with this Vanilla editor, as fans would have had more time with that one.

Warlust is a BIX. I guess I forgot to scroll down before I took the screenshot. I really like the map setup except aluminum would be nice. Maybe I will have to do some map editing to it to change the resource setup. Not sure how to do it but what better time to learn than now.

Yeah I was more of a lurker

I added an oil to it. Just right click the bix and select open with. It should ponly offer one app. Then you will have to use T for terrain and select tundra. Add a tundra tile or two or change an existing tile to tundra.

Then R to get resources. Select Oil and place on the tundra. Save or Save As.

Thanks, I added oil and some aluminum. Now I'll just have to try it out.

I didn't know it was that easy to edit maps and such. I am going to start making my own now. I'm excited to start but homework comes first

I play from the Gold edition and am currently working my way through the scenarios. Last month I played a scenario a second time and the number of available resources were reduced. I've noticed in a lot of games that if you replay them the situation gets tougher, maybe to balance the fact that you know the map now.

They also included Warlust in Civ3's Game of the Year Edition, which is what I purchased. I've never gotten around to playing it, though.
