Howdy all, long time lurker (since Civ2!), first time poster.

I recently upgraded my monitor. I went from an old 17" Viewsonic CRT to a LG 19" LCD (model L1981Q). On the old monitor I could pretty much choose any screen resolution I wanted in the 'Options' menu.

With the new monitor installed, I'm suddenly limited to 1024x768 & 1280x1024. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I pretty much bought this new big monitor so that I can see more of the Civ4 game in detail. So you can imagine my disappointment after blowing the bling to get limited to 1280x1024 lol.

Version is 1.52, the game has not changed ... just the monitor. I rolled back the driver & that didn't help, I'm still limited.

Anti-aliasing is set to 0, I’ve ran the graphics/render/globe quality level from low to high, no change in resolution options.

Does anyone have an idea as to why I would suddenly be limited to a certain screen resolution? Do LCD's not support certain resolutions?

Any info would be appreciated, thanks! :goodjob:

In general LCD technology is still stuck at max 1280 x 1024 resolution - for sensible prices ..... you can get them at higher resolutions but it costs an arm and a leg - aka £400+ / $700+ prices drop all the time of course, but it willbe a while before they ramp up volume production of LCDs beyond 1280 x 1024 res

I very strongly suspect you are limited to that res as a max, it will tell you in the LCD manual that came with the screen.

Interesting, I tried to adjust the resolution in Windows XP via the Display Properties ==> Settings and higher than 1280 x 1024 resolution doesn't make the screen detail any finer, but allows me to 'scroll' the screen, as in the total desktop real estate is larger. Dang it!

I'll read up in the manual ...
