Linux

I'm at work tonight so I won't be able to do much until after midnight, but I didn't see any box except for something to the effect of manage CD eject or something like that. I attempted to mount the CD after putting the second CD in the DVD drive and then found the the file that they couldn't find, I then clicked on that file and it began to continue to install. But it didn't install all the way, even though the window said the file had copied 100%. Perhaps I was just too impatient, and closed out the window too early. A message popped up when I tried to run that game that the installation was incorrect. I will try it again later. If I do that and the installation goes through all the way, will it correct any errors that might have been taken place, or will I have to try to find a way to uninstall the game and try again?

I also just downloaded and printed the Cedega instructions and will be reading through them tonight. Hopefully I will get some of these answers from them.

Also, please explain to me what is meant by a native client for x86. I have Doom 3 and have already played the game in windows, but would like to see how it works in Linux. Apparently there is a native client for x86 for Doom 3.

Are there any plans for this with Civ III or Civ IV?

Padma-- did you have any problems playing/installing CivIII or IV on your Mandriva machine?

Yeah, "CD Rom eject monitoring" is the one.

I've had problems *playing* Civ3/Civ4 on my system, but it's hardware-related. I think my mobo is preparing to die. :( I had no real problems *installing* though. (Although I do seem to recall that sometimes a window would pop up about the CD having an autorun function, and would I like to run that. This popup would be hidden under other windows, and Iif I missed it to close, things wouldn't go right.)

The native version for Doom 3 uses the Windows CD for installation, IIRC, and to my understanding basically just "patches" the game so it runs natively. (Doom doesn't depend on Windows api. ;)) I think you can get the "patch" by contacting the publisher.

And no, Firaxis has absolutely no plans to support Civ on Linux. :(

Think of it this way, it gives you an excuse to build a fancy box with all the latest hardware, you know, pass up the very best Alienware computer. You can go out and spend $300.00+ for a video card, stick in 3 gig ram, and heck I have no idea about processors anymore. It seems my machine is way outdated now. I have a P4 3.2 Ghz, and only 768 ram. Of course, if you are like me, or have a wife like mine, that'll happen.:(

Oh, by the way Cedega says with multiple disc installs that I should just (Un)mount the first CD, before attempting to install the second. I will be trying that when I get home shortly after midnight.
