Loaning Money

Well, in my current game i am in the Industrial Ages and around this time, other civs start to struggle less financially. One of my neighbors, the Cherokee (don't ask why; its a mod) has a good amount of gold coming in per turn and i figured giving them a loan could make me a little profit.

This is an even trade:

loan 400 gold ----------recieve 20 gpt, or 400 gold when it is added up. the profit is zero.

However, i have fooled around with the negotiating table and got this.

loan 350 gold ---------Recieve 20 gpt, or 400 gold. So essentially, i make 50 gold at the end of 20 turns.

the base to use for this is

loan 18 gold--------Recieve 1 gpt, or 20 gold. The AI doesn't seem to accept less than 18 gold for every 1 gpt. This might not be the case for other civs, since, i have only tested it on one so far.

One thing i noticed though, as the amount they pack back per turn increases, the above standard will get closer and closer to loaning 20 gold per 20 received per turn, but never actually reaches it.

Has anyone made a chart or something of this before? This could be potentially profitable on top of resource and tech trading.

Let me know if anything isn't clear, i'll explain if you need it to be clarified.

At minimum aggression, unless I've soiled my reputation, it's always come as 1 gpt for 18 gold. So, 2 gpt for 36 gold, 3 gpt for 54 gold, etc. In other words, keep a calculator handy (or use one on your computer) when doing something like this.

i've seen that with each gpt demanded the 18 gold slides up a tiny bit, only noticeable when dealing with larger amounts.

say i receive 10 gpt they won't take 180 gold, they'll ask for a bit more like 185, but i can still get away with a profit. If graphed out, it probably wouldn't be a straight diagonal line, maybe more of an arc.

I've never seen such an increase in the epic game. Might be something with your mod.

just made a short list of calculations and it didn't stay at 1 gpt for 18 gold, the 18 gold slowly increased in amounts only noticeable when working with more money. The pattern is interesting, and there were two spots that had a leap followed by a dip. tested these calculations on other civs in the game and it was valid. Theoretically, if you wanted the maximum profit, you would do the 1 gpt for 18g trade one by one until the AI was out of gpt to give. let me know what you think and if i should continue to figure this pattern out.

Loaning them gold for gpt, always risks involved though, like them declaring war and not paying it back.

I disagree, or at least there's a qualification you might miss here, which implies the risk might come as lower than you think. In my Sid conquest, space, and histographic (attempted so far) games, I have loaned the AIs for gpt and not had any unexpected attacks. But, I only do this with AIs that have a luxury or resource available, which I pay gpt for myself by the end of the turn. I don't know if this means that paying gpt has significant enough of a effect to decrease the probability of attacks, or that taking say 85% of their gpt works out fine, but taking 98% of their gpt makes them go too broke, making it more likely that they'll attack you.
