Long loading time in between turns

On really large maps (which I like playing for the FFH mod), the load in between turns is excruciatingly long once kingdoms go in to the 1500 point range. I'm running a 1.8 ghz Core 2 Duo and 2 gb of ram. My videocard is a GeForce 7600 GS but I'm not sure if that makes a difference for loading time. Any tips for improving load time besides upgrading hardware?

Looks like your pc can not handle large maps. play smaller ones to cut the lag, the only way to solve this problem play smaller maps and/or with fewer civs
