Greetings

Just wondering if there is any solution for the incredibly boring and long wait times I have to endure every turn while my 70 or so workers do their thing?

Its really long and ridiculous, is there a fix? I've switched off enemy and friend moves etc

Plus watching those boring bombers do their thing against my improvements when im at war are a major drag...

i mean they could at least make it interesting and attack a city

Adding "NoAIPatrol=1" to your .ini file will speed the game up a bit...and pressing caps lock for C3C v1.22 or holding down shift for other versions will temporarily take away unit animations for as long as you hold the button down.

Greetings.
You don't mention what version of the game you have so you end up getting suggestions which only work in some, not all.

The key to getting through long worker movement late game is to turn off 'animate our automatic moves'. In VC3 & PTW you can also hold down the shift key during the worker sequence. In C3C, you can hit the 'Caps Lock' key instead of holding down the 'shift' key. These just temporarily disable all animations except battles.

If that isn't fast enough, you can turn off 'show our automatic moves'.

To affect the bombers, i think you need to turn off 'animate battles'.

You should only use the NoAIPatrol=flag if you have long non-war related AI turn times since it affects the AI *and* barbarians. However, if you have C3C, you *should* set NoAIPatrol=0 (see link in my sig) at least for the early game.

I just have the generic game - with the latest patch

and how do u do the no ai thing?

I don't know if it will even work in Vanilla Civ3 (VC3). We were told about it during the PTW patch process.

Basically, adding the line NoAIPatrol=1 to the ini file stops the AI from randomly moving units around that have nothing better to do. BUT it also affects barbarian behavior and i don't recommend its usage since it affects the dynamics of the game.

Turn time problems should be solved by turning off the animation preferences and holding down the 'shift' key (in vc3).

Just turn off all animations in the CTRL-P screen. Only one I ever leave on is Animate Battles but I even turn that off in late game when there are a lot of units.

i tried some of these suggestions but nothing seemed to work

its basically my own units that are causing the prob, i have about 70 workers on automate and they take about 2 minutes to cycle through their crap

i aint gonna be liftin the minimum wage anytime soon

its like playin against a slow human opponent who is fixing dinner and takin a crap

The game goes thru all the workers one by one to see if there is anything for them to do. If you turned off 'show our automatic moves' and it is still taking too long, it can be sped up by fortifying some of the workers that aren't doing anything important. That way it doesn't check to see if they have something to do.

This is most useful late game when all you need is pollution cleaned up each turn. Only so many workers are required to get the job done, the rest are redundant.
