Hey,
I like playing relly long games and I found that CivIV moves alot faster than CivIII and i was wondering if there was anyway to change the starting year and the game speed or anything.

Isn't there a marathon speed? That would probably do the trick. Otherwise in the editor I think you can change the amount of years that pass between turns and such... I'm not sure exactly.

the Marathon speed changes everything universally just like the Epic speed... basicly it takes longer to get through the tree but it takes just as long to build the units... Increase Research by 5 turns and it increase unit building by 5 turns lol

Several ppl have modifyed the speed... my Composite Mod's epic speed has been modifyed for just extended tech (everything else is normal speeds) but i made alot of other changes.

Marathon speed will make everything take longer: build and research.

However, it makes available units more important than ever. Since you can't build new units in 2-3 turn, but more like 6-10 turns (in the first half of the game, where forge is the only city structure that will boost production), you can't afford to mount a small army to defend your cities.

If your neighboor attacks you with 15-25 units, you better have some units available, because you won't be able to build new ones for at least 5 turns.

Wars are much more interesting since losses cannot be replaced quickly by new units. Personnaly, I love it. It does however make a game take a looonnnngggg time, but I don't mind. This is Civ :)

Actually in marathon speed unit production takes only twice as long as normal speed. All other production and research are set at 3 times normal. So you can build slightly larger armies relative to normal speeds. And you definately have a lot more turns to use your units before they get outdated.

beware that turns of anarchy and peace treaties are not affected by the longer game. You can change most of these values if you look through the xml files... good luck...
