Mods, please move this if necessary.

Hi all, I'm currently looking for a quote by Stalin for my war studies dissertation which I know exists, but I cannot find anywhere. The gist of it is Stalin expressing his cynicism that the Western Allies were invading Italy before France in order to take control of the Balkans. I know its very vague, but any help in finding it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Didn't find anything similar in Russian sources. Are you sure he was talking about Western Allies invading Italy?
There is one Stalin's pseudo-quote, remotely related to Italy - "How many divisions does Pope have?"

Stalin has probably one of the biggest number of quotes, falsely attributed to him, like for example:
"No man, no problem"
"Death of one person is a tragedy, death of millions is a statistics"
"One must be a very brave man to be a coward in Red Army"
"There are no captives, there are traitors"
etc.

Hmmm, I was, but now that you mention it, it could have been about the North Africa campaign or about the delay in opening the second front. All I can be sure of is that it boiled down to him being worried that the Allies intended to take the Balkans to stop them falling under Soviet influence. It was quite a long quote, which I believe he said to an aid or minister. I've made it even vaguer now lol, I guess I'm just hoping somebody sees this and knows what the hell I'm talking about. Thanks for looking though mate, I'll continue the search.
