Looking for tips , Emperor lvl

Yes, but I just prefer to be at the club. I also like to see the players and hold the cards. As you know it is much harder to retain information on cards with computers.

I know some apps have means to log data for you, but it is just not my cup of tea. Daytona Beach has a club and my neighbor goes there from time to time, so I could go if I really wanted.

Sorry about jacking the thread.

How do you know if a player is bluffing online if you can't look at them and read them. That's my only hang-up about online poker.

Well, although you can't see his face and body gestures, there is plenty of information.

When opponents wait a long time, it often indicates a strong hand.
When opponants wait long before checking, they often have very weak hands and are not going to check raise you.

Also you can get to know your opponents by watching their plays. You play 3 times faster online than live, so you have plenty of hands to see your opponent play. You will notice if a player often bluffed against other players, and you will notice if your opponents bets and raises much more often than he is supposed to have good hands.
By watching him play, you may notice in what kind of situations he likes to make certain plays.

Of course, this is a different type of read, but it works very good as well.

There indeed is software for this. It counts how many of his hands your opponent plays, how many he raises, how many he folds etc. After you played an hour with an opponent, this statistical information is pretty reliable and you know not if your opponent bluffs, but you can estimate how likely he is to bluff.
This software is legal to use at all online pokerrooms. If you play 1 table online, you won't need it as you can create your reads yourself, but it is extremely helpfull when playing multiple tables simultaniously.

It is indeed a somewhat different game as you do not need the skill to read your opponents by their behaviour, but it is a very good learning ground before you start playing live games. It is good to learn it online because:
-You can practice your technical skills first without having to worry about the psychological part very much. If you then go play live, you can concentrate on the psychological part
-Online you can play for very low stakes so that learning is cheap. (everyone loses while learning)
-Online you play 3 times the speed, you can play any hour on the day and any type of game you want.
-You don't have distractions when you sit behind your PC unlike the casino where there are often many pretty ladies to keep your mind from poker :)
-You can take books, make notes and post your hands on discussion forums or even have a more experienced friend sit next to you to advise and teach you. Can't do those things in casinos.

I play both onilne and live. I do not think the games online are any less a game of skill than the live games.
For the game itself i prefer online poker because i can play multiple tables simultaniously and every table plays 3 times as fast as live games. (No, that is not strange or very difficult, after you learned the game, everyone can play 2-4 tables simultainiously without problems.)

The reason to prefer the live games is because it gets me out of my house and into a social environment.
Januari the 7th, i am going to Vegas :) Still a while ahead, but i look forward to it.

You don't online or offline, you can only surmise.

Well yes, but there are plenty of things you can try to read off of someone in a live situation, eyes, gestures, talking to them, nervousness, etc.
I play in a weekly poker game (low stakes, $20 buy-in) and many of the players are regulars and you get to know how certain people play. I don't know if I would enjoy playing online as much, I'll have to give it a try sometime though.

Adog, if you haven't read it yet, read:
Mike Caro's book of poker tells
It is the best book on the subject.

Edit: And now we got a poker forum in here :D

I met Mike when his wife ( I think her name was Phylis) was managing some aspect of the club (The Bicycle Club), she later went to Hollywood Park. I already knew who he was from mags and books.

Anyway tells are not always reliable, but if you find one great. In a large club, where you go 2 or 3 times a month, you see a lot of people. At limit poker, you play the cards more than the player. It does not matter what the limit is, you have pretty much the same stuff.

I have seen the same lame play at 75-150 in Foxwoods as I say at the 1-2 at the Gardenia Club was back when. Yes you will find a few good players as you move up, but you still get the bad ones.

You have your maniacs and your calling stations and your rocks. Those types can be figured out online or in person. In the end at limit poker you mostly have to show down the best hand.

When I started in the clubs the house did not provide dealers and it did not cut the pot. You paid time to be at the table. They collected evey half hour.

Just try to play some and you'll see ..

I was playing VC poker ( victor chandler ) , and I like it , it's cool you can play for real money and can play for fun . after you play some you start to know when they're bluffing and when they're not , it's all about technique .

You can get to rooms where players play for real money , you can see their table .
you'll see that they really afraid to bluff or call even it's not a lot of money , there are players playing for cents and there are players playing for more money ( Dollars ) .

Also note, there is a lot of difference between sites.

There are sites like absolute poker where you can always get some bonusses, but the players are there just for the bonus and they are either rocks or tight agressive. You won't be winning money against those players.

There are also sites connected to onlince casinos like pacific, where people come to gamble for fun. They play close to 100% of their starting hands and they call you down to the river before deciding if their hand is worth anything.

You will also see alot of difference between the different poker games.
The full ring limit games have gotten real tight online. I now play the 6player limit games because most opponents are cleuless there, some play tight as like they should on full ring, others have learned to be more loose and agressive and now are complete maniacs. Only few of them have it right.
In tournaments most players play particularly bad, probably because the chips don't directly represent real money and they don't understand how to handle increasing blinds.

vmxa, if i ever go to florida i will pm you for a game of poker ;)

yeah many people like that finishes in the streets ( they were rich , and now the homelesses ) and there are people that get rich :)

Wacken you're playing on real money or only with the chips for fun .
I never tried to play for real money in some online poker or official place , Just with friends for low money , hehe . It's that fun because not everybody know the rules and not everybody knows when their hand is sucks to not call .

btw what kind of poker you use to play ?

I'm a pretty new player, started playing about 10 months ago, but i study the game more serious than i studied Civ3, so i am starting to learn it.
Last months i have been living from poker earnings, but that is only possible because i live very cheap and spend less than 1000E per month including rent.

I hate gambling though, and i am very conservative, thats why i still play lower limits then i might be able to play. I want to play only the poker games where i am sure to have the advantage :)

I play 1/2$ Limit 6max online. I try to play about 1000 hands per day. ( 3 tables online = 300 per hour)
Next week i am gonna start studying the 1 table tournaments of wich i only played like 30 until now. Those should be pretty easy as opposed to 6max limit which is the most difficult poker game.

In the casino i play 5/10 and 10/20 full ring Limit. A limit wich is actually to high for me with the swings that come when you play poker, but the game is so incredibly soft that i play it anyway. There are like 6 players to the flop on average :)

I would play in casino too but I'm living in Israel and it's not legall here , we only have Casino in Eilat because it's like Out of Israel control but I don't want to ride there just to play poker , I would better go on some Party in Eilat ( much better ) .

to play Poker I would dl some good designed poker like I said Victor Chandler's poker , and just play for fun , I prefer to not play for real money to not become addicted .

@Pentium - what do you mean when you said you missed 2 pages again ?
