I am looking for a program that will allow resuming of interupted file transfers in Windows Explorer. The reason I need that instead of an FTP client is because I am transfering large files over windows shares while VPNed into my work's network.

Thanks in advance.

I have never heard of a utility like that.

I do a large part of my work over VPN with cable internet, and I won't use Windows file transfer for anything over ~500K files. We have our server set up for Windows access, but if it's larger than 500K I use FTP. Not as convenient, but Windows transfers are so inefficient (probably twice as many packets transferred with overhead) that it's worth the inconvenience. Windows protocols are so old that they are optimized for LAN transfers only, and are horrendous over WAN (like VPN). There are some tricks to add a little efficiency into a MS network, but they are a hassle and don't work very well anyway.

Unless for some reason FTP isn't enabled on your file server? Then I'd bug your admin to turn it on.

The problem is that our "file server" isn't really a file server. It is a Windows 2000 Professional machine that has folders shared out. Corporate has some pain in the arse policies about Server Design Reviews (SDR) so it isn't possible to install an FTP serrver on it (by corporate policy - I have admin rights to the box but I don't want to deal with the headache of possible security problems - I don't have the time and our sysadmin won't do it unless we have the SDR) or upgrade it to Windows 2000 Server without going through a LOT of work. Add to it that there isn't enough HDD space on our current real servers to host all of the files I am talking about and there isn't much that I can do besides live with what we have.

There probably isn't anything out there but I thought I would ask.
