Ok folks here is an updated map. I think I did a beter job on the resources and redid all the tiles so that there is grasslands, plains, deserts and all. I havent changed the rules part of it yet so it is in need of work, but if you make some changes and think that they are for the better let em know or post it inthis thread. I am looking for help in designing the new characters.

I want to add a Balarog, elven archers, orcs, trolls, great eagles for flight and giant bats, even the elite orcs and trolls. Maybe change the spys for the evil civs to golumn or something.

So when I make these do I need to make an individual pict for each 15 frames and each of the directions it would face? Any suggestions or links on how to do this would be appreciated.

I have Flicster and PS6 Ill8 plus a bunch of other nic nack programs.

well like i said if you have any improvements toss them on here.

also if you get a screenshot of the whole map could ya post it on here for me.

take care

ps I appologize for putting such and incomplete map up at first.

Good map.

First the whales shouldn't be on land tiles.
Second Misty Mountains are mostly snow capped.

Also i feel its really impossible to make a lotr scenraio without a scenario maker.

I would really like a scenario of the 3rd age and War of the Ring.
Right now it can't be made on CIV 3.

A scenario would have all the different kingdoms and some goblin cities on Misty Mountains with tons of warriors.
Gondor with swordsman with better attack.
Mordor filled with warriors and 9 good units (knights).
Rohan has alot of horsemen with better attack and a few riders.
Wood Elves have bowmen and longbowmen equivalent archers.
Noldor elves w/powerful bowmen and swordsman and immortals.
Isengard has mix of swordsman(Uruk Hai) and warriors(reg. orcs).
Harad with warriors and a few elephant units(oliphaunt).
Easterling cities beyond Mirkwood.
Dwarven cities in Iron Hills and Erebor and Ered Luin.
King Brand with cities south of Erebor.

The scenario could be from the 3rd book.
Easterlings and orcs from East and Misty Mountains pressuring the dwarves, wood elves and dalemen.
Orcs and warriors from Mordor and warriors and elephants attacking Gondor.
Rohan being forced to defeat Isengard and then go south to help Gondor.

But that all requires a scenario editor.

I used the whale tales on land because they looked like tobacco leaves to me at the time...I did rename them.

Is there a editor to do that kind of campain? If so I would be interested.

I will redo some of that map and try a repost of it later in the week. I will also try to edit some of the units so they are unique to certain realms.

but again how do I put elves in a certain location and the same for the others?

With the present editor it is not possible to lock civs into specific starting locations. Hopefully this will be fixed in a patch or something.

Also, as far as I know, the Elven Archers will cause the game to crash unless people make the appropriate changes to their units folder under the Art folder. They'll need to change the unit folder name and the name of the .ini file in the folder. Also, if you've changed the graphic used for the unit, they'll need to replace it with the appropriate animations in the unit folder (it looks like you're using a Longbowman for this unit). I also noticed that the Elven Archer is an leader/army and it can bombard. You may want to consider splitting some of these functions into different units.

Along the same lines, the Mithril Works small wonder looks like one super wonder, with several abilities. You might want to consider splitting it's functions into different small wonders instead of one super wonder. Why not just rename Iron Works to Mithril Works, but keep the same bonuses?

As mentioned by others, you can do with about 90% fewer strategic and luxury resources. Getting the resource ratio right is tricky; I've had to go back over my map a few times to rearrange and wittle down the resources (and I'm still not sure I got it right). In addition, virtually every grassland space has a shield. You might want to cut these down as well.

I'm assuming this is a work in progress, so eventually you'll fill in the gaps, so to speak. For example:
- Tweak barbarian names so their appropriate for the setting
- Tweak the names of units, improvements, wonders, and advances so they are appropriate for the setting
- Adjust the governments so they are more appropriate for a fantasy setting (Monarchy, Despotism and Republic should be okay, but Communism and Democracy don't sound right in a fantasy world).
- Maybe change the names of the different eras...I'm not sure what you would call them, but anything to add atmosphere helps

You may want to consider changing the Mithril resource icon from uranium to aluminum. Sure, it looks like a soda can, but at least it's shiny and metallic looking, unlike uranium.

On the map itstelf, it looks about right, from what I know of LotR. However, you may want to consider using desert to represent the wastelands of Mordor (did I get the name right? My memory is a little sketchy). Also, maybe some of the grasslands could be changed to plains, just for visual variety, if nothing else.

You should check the Modpack section here for new units and resource graphics. For example, the (sort of) new Assassin and Prophet units could be useful. There's also a crossbowman unit that could be useful on this map.

Looks like a good start. I hope my two cents worth is helpful to you.

That helps a bunch... and yes its a work in muchneed of progress.

Ill try to get the changes in by the weekend.

I should have the map done by then and some more units figured out.

Ill look into changing some of the graphics and maybe doing some custom ones of my own.

Im a fairly new mod editor and have a few questions,
Every one has said to make a LOTr scenario we need a very good unit creator guy, does any one know of one?
Secondly, I do not think there is any way on the current scenario editor for Civ III that you can A: tag any specific players starting location which is a problem B: Pre Build and Create any citys or units for any civ and C: you cannot make them go to war with eachother at any specific time,

as far as I know of.

If there are any advances i am not aware of post them

i repeat im new

I just want a map of Middle Earth, not an entire scenario with changes to the civs and units. But, of course, that's just me.

lotr:

There are a few different utilties you can download from Civfanatics that will allow you to reposition civs as well as place new units for each civ. Using this you can create pre-established cities, but it would be tedious and slow to do. At this time there is no events for Civ3, so you can't make nations go to war at a specific time.

Hope this helps you out some.

thanks but where? where can i find those utilities ive looked 4ever

if u happen to know
thanx

remy

Go to Civ3- Creation and Customizatoin, go to Utilities section, go to Civ placement tool(near bottom of the page) by Gramphos, click on it, download the program.

Wow. Looks like a very good map. I had a quick look in the editor, and the only possible suggestion that I have is to make the entrance to Mordor a bit more pronounced - Udûn is a flat bowl, like a crater, and then there's the two towers of the Morannon on the northwestern edge. If you moved the fortress you have there, add another and delete a couple of mountains - add desert, I think it would be very impressive.
I'll be playing it as is anyway :)
