I'm pretty new to this utterly fantastic mod (and am now an addict!). I've been playing a new game as the Grigori and having a ball with it. I've actually been pretty successful and seem to have hit my cap of Luonnatars. I figured I'd start building the altars but I can't seem to figure out how to sacrifice my L's to build the altars. I've put them in various cities, I have almost every tech in the entire game. Am I missing something?

The Altars are built by Great Prophets, not by the Luonnotar unit.

Nope, the Grigori have an alternative way to build it via the Luonnatars, at least it was so in the previous versions. I have hard time to track the recent changes so something might changed in this matter thou.

I believe they used to be able to do that, but it was removed because it made the game too easy for the Grigori.

Of course, that being said, I'd still like for the Luonnatar to be able to build their own Altar (thus allowing the Grigori to actually win their most thematic victory). If it's too easy to let any Luonnatar add to the Altar, why not base it off promotions? Every Luonnatar would start with the "Altar" promotion, and could acquire "Altar (annointed)", "Altar (blessed)", etc up through "Altar (exalted)" by levelling up normally. Great Prophets would be created with all Altar promotions (though perhaps they might not get them if born in Evil civs, if it's too unthematic to have someone following the Veil hoard Prophets only to switch to The Order and win the game after reseraching "Omniscience"). If you've got the promotion and the tech, you can build the Altar. This would mean that getting the final stages of the Altar pretty much requires dedicated Adventurers.

That would be a good idea actually.
