Luxury Resources & Spies

Hello everybody, two questions. When trading luxury resources, I understand some are far more valuable then others. For example, gems have more value then cotton, wich makes sense. But when trading similar resources, I always guess "what would make the deal work". Does anybody have a list with the values of luxury resources compared to each other? Thanks in advance!

On to the second question: Spies. Of course I immediately bought Gods & Kings as soon as it came in the Dutch app store. But i'm struggling with the following: If a spy steals a technology, the civ you stole it from will know it. The first time you steal a tech They will ask you to stop thieving. But is it possible to steal a tech without the civ you stole it from knowing it?

Thanks guys!

When you trade luxury ressources, they are all boiled down to the same benefit, an amount of happiness. Besides that your cities will demand a certain luxury along the game, and getting that will give a growth bonus in the city which demands you have met.

On the city tile, it's different, like Gems give more gold than silver and gold when you work the tile. But then you can later build the mint and then Silver and Gold become the best gold producers. There's things like marble that speed up wonderbuilding for the city that has it in it's borders. Incense and Wine allowing for cultural building. Elephants (Ivory) will let you build circus (horses does that too) But these differences are only in play when you have them on a city tile.

So if you trade a luxury, the AI has a set price it will want. I think on Epic speed it's 124 gold, and 5 gold pr turn. That's the maximum you can squeeze out of your luxury. But if you have any diplomatic issues with the AI, then they will lower the price they will buy for or demand ludicrous prices for their own luxuries. If it´s an old friend you trade with, he might start throwing in some horses or iron or such.

So if you have a neighbour and she is friendly, but she only want's to offer 30 gold and 5 gold pr turn (epic speed). Then you can actually tell that she doesn't like you as much a she says she does :) .

Strangely I twice stole techs from Germany without them either asking me to stop or showing a modifier for spying - they only seem to give you the modifier if you capture and kill their spy ("our spy was caught trying to steal their technology").

I think this should work like past Civ games where, if the stealing is effective enough, the other civ gets told a tech is stolen but not who by - and where, if it's very effective, you have a chance of framing someone else for the deed.
