Okay, Beamup says there will be no Editor for the OS 8.6, etc. systems. On Westlake's site it says there is no editor for the above mentioned systems, but yes for OSX. Does this mean there will not be one in the future for OS 8.6? Its just not in production now?

My thoughts: The editor for OSX is probably going to be for purchase, not a patch. Of course if this is already known then this post is mute. I think this because we who operate on 8.x/9.x paid the same price as those operating on OSX for Civ3. If "they" get an editor free then is not the "powers that be" responsible for offering it to "us" also?

I know MacIntosh is moving away from the older mac system, at least its what I hear, but I really want an editor too (I have no hacking skills.).

Dojoboy,

Here on this forum, and in several others, it has been stated that the Editor will be in Cocoa only (OS X only). I do not know if there are any future plans to make an Editor for pre-OS X systems, but the current plan now seems to be just going with one that runs on OS X.

For multiple reasons, I too am frustrated with the changes OS X has brought on, mine are mostly due though to issues with my Gossamer G3 being "supported" by OS X, and yet my firewire card, my internal floppy drive, and all 7 of my printers are now utterly useless since they're all serially connected. I won't even go into the kernel panics that happen and then don't happen.

If you really want to use the editor, and you have Virtual PC (or another PC Emulator app), you can download one of the hacked editors here on this site and edit scenarios that way (It's what I'm doing right now) Just a warning from my experience.. 1) the hacked editor, or rather, the one I use, frequently quits unexpectedly. This means I have to save frequently. 2) Because the art files are not there, you'll get a bunch of error dialogue boxes to click through. 3) No map editing, but you can edit the rules.

I know it's not much consolation, but I hope it's at least an alternative. Part of why I'm champing at the bit so much. I hate using Virtual PC to do my editing.....Then again, I've been a die hard Apple user since it was just the Apple ][.. I hate having to use a Windows 2K machine at work!!!! ;)

Never say never, but I'd say it's highly unlikely. If you're waiting around for the editor to be available on anything but OSX, you could be in for an infinitely long wait.

It's going to be a free download, but if you want to start a petition to make it a purchase, I sure won't stop you. ;)

Hmmm, lets see...where did I put that add for the new Mac? Oh, there it is. :)

Personally I have no complaints with the OS X onlyness of the editor. But I AM curious about when we might be able to expect this wonderful download?

I guess we'll get the CIV III editor for mac as soon as CIV IV for Win will be released.:(

I hope not! I have too much faith in Brad for that too happen... but I am beginning to wonder... I'd rather have the editor released before the latest patch on the PC side is ported over, but that might just be me.

Patch first then editor. Gotta be that way - the patch modifies the editor and I don't think Brad wants to do the editor twice!

Definitly patch then Editor, I reckon. The Editor has been at Alpha status on Westlake's Project page for a few weeks now. Given the normal turnaround, it can only be a) Brad's other work on 'Galactic Battlegrounds' and b) the absence of v. 1.21 patch code that is preventing the Editor moving to Beta.

It's really interesting to be a Mac person with all the other activity going on with Civ3--expansion pack an' all--anyway, I'm still trying to graduate from Warlord level.
