Mac or not Mac ?

Hi everybody,

I'm a big fan of Civ and I was wondering if they already think about a Mac version of Civ IV. Anybody knows anything ?

Unfortunately, it appears that there will not be a Mac release initially. I think there has been some information that the game is being developed using DirectX, which is a MS graphics interface; presumably they will also use DirectPlay for the multiplayer.

I understand that when Civ3 (vanilla) was ported to MacOS, the directx conversion was not the real problem - it was the directplay that was the 'problem' in getting PTW / conquests ported (multiplayer aspects).

Anyway - we have a mac forum here, and there is even a thread for a petition for a mac port here - that thread also has info on the issues with porting (frequented by Brad (oliver?) who helped the Civ3 porting).
