Mac Support

Actually Cider is best because some Cider ported games can run on OS Tiger! and the wrapper is very small and a Cider port takes less than 100 person-hours

Argh, I'm moving to Germany next week for a year of study, which means I leave my PC at home and take my MacBook with me.... I would love a Mac version. *sigh* But I guess if worse comes to worse I can get bootcamp :/

Someone might know why (or could prove me wrong) that cIV ran better in Bootcamp on my MacBook than the Aspyr port did, so you might want to use bootcamp anyway. Also my Macbook would start having issues with anything larger than a small map with six civs on it towards the end of the game. I think it's going to be a wait and see on whether or not civ5 works on a macbook.

I had the Aspyr port of Civ IV and was not happy with it at all, no comparison to how it runs on the Win version I bought later (and run now). A native Mac version would be nice, and I fail to see why Blizzard can pump out both Mac and PC versions with little problems seemingly (Diablo III will be both, again), and the Civ people say they can't. The way Apple is selling these machines, you think they would sit up and take notice.

If you have a Mac, you'll probably want Bootcamp.

jb2386, the good news for you is that it is legal to buy OEM versions of Windows second-hand in Germany, based on a court decision that Microsoft doesn't like to talk about too much:

Sorry, it's in German, but I guess if you are going to be here for year, you'll manage. Anyway, this means you can buy Win XP for about 30 euros on Ebay Germany, legally, install it with Bootcamp, and give Monty a good thrashing.

Given that Macs right now are exploding in popularity (most college campuses these days Mac and PC are at least even, if Mac isn't ahead - so that's what the next generation of computer users is probably going to look like), a lot more studios are opening up to Mac. Blizzard's been doing it since forever, but Bioware's doing it now too and so is EA with their big titles.

Or we could Cider Port it, I might have a working copy after I find my ****ing (PC) Disks and then we shall all be happy and nary glance upon Windows and Prance with our Macs Hugs MacBook

If you truly hate Windows you could buy the Complete Edition and go to

and follow their instructions to get it to work

I tried sending a tweet since @CivGame already answered someone about the question of console versions to which they said "PC only" so I asked for clarification. Nothing yet.

I'm hoping they don't go with Aspyr, Cider wrappers work excellently and then you have the EXACT same capabilities as PC users (as far as moddability), and it is a relatively simple process. The Sims 3 was originally going to be a delayed mac port but then they used Cider and now it's hybrid discs! Since cider is stupid easy (if the teams of hobbyists can do it then it can't be that blasted hard), I think our chances are pretty good of getting a mac version.

The real question I think will be simultaneous hybrid disc release or delayed mac port release? I'm hoping for the former but with Dragon Age, they released it later as a separate downloadable version. Which of course means they can get more money out of people with both systems so I wouldn't be shocked if it went that way.

But I will certainly add my voice to the "if it's not moddable like the PC version, then count me out' crowd. That's easily possible with Cider and I do hope that they go that route when they see that's what the people want :goodjob:.
