Though this might sound like something from world of warcarft but I was wondering can a magic user become addicted to magic if they use it too much for too long?

I don't think so, or at least never seen this.

Yes, its quite possible. I have it. I can't play any games without rushing for magic. Amurite, Sheaim, Svartalfar, Calabim, heck Bannor.
My name is Tyrs, and I am a magic addict

Power of any kind can be addictive. I tend to think that psychological additions to magic can be quite strong, but am not sure if physical addictions exist. Well, that is if you don't count those like the vampires who have extended their lives by feeding on the souls of others and would quickly age and die if they don't continue sustaining themselves with such magic. The actual blood can be addictive too, even though it isn't really important to the feeding process.

It hasn't been confirmed or denied, but I think it would explain a few Sheaim mages. "Good? Evil? Causing the end of the world? Who cares, I need my fix!"

I always liked that aspect from WoW. Was the most interesting thing about Blood Elves. The idea of a race that were essentially drug addicts, ranging from those with some degree of control to those who had fallen to the "will do anything for" levels.

As for in the game. I've seen nothing that suggests that there are physical addictions to magic, but as MC said, the psychological addiction could be formidable.

I do like KC's idea, it does make a lot of sense of Sheaim mages. If I wanted a cigarette badly, I'm sure I'd be okay with bringing about the end of the world in order to get one

I would not destroy the world for a cigarette. Where are they going to grow more tobacco if I destroyed the world? Wait...finally a solution to my smoking problem. If they can't buy smokes, they can't smoke them around me.

"This cigarette isn't big enough for me anymore, time to smoke the world!"

But yeah, I agree with what the Magister said. I think it is the power spells give you. Consider if you could do it in the real world, it would be hard to moderate yourself, no?
