If I understand correct (if I dont please tell me so :)) the Magnate civs go out on their own and colonise planets whitout you having to order them to. Now what I was wondering was: when do they colonise planets? I found a Magnate civ on a planet in a system next to my home-system and I have had control of the planet for some time but no new colonies have been founded. Do I need a certain tech or what? Any help would be....Helpfull :)
Also, does anyone knows what happens when one of your ship travel to a neutron star or a black hole?

I think you mixed it up somewhat. The way I understand it, Magnate Civs are remnants of the Civs hat were exterminated (Mrrshan, Darlok, Bulrathi, etc). They are integrated into your empire once you settle their planet, but that's about it.

You might get their race-boni when you build units on that planet, but I haven't tried that yet.

You do get their race boni. So you should settle whereevery you find one, no matter what the planet stats are for your race. See the readme for more info on each magnate civ.
:D

But why then do I get like 20 colonies whit an 100% Darlock population that I didnt ask about?

The Darlok people naturally want to expand and will do so to any planet that is "nice" for them. How the AI prioritizes this, I have no idea. Your own people, too, will sometimes naturally "migrate" to new planets, if you're too slow with colony ships.

Any magnate civ will do this. It's a very good way to fill in a bunch of worlds with "people" who can thrive well in that planet's environment.

I *think* but don't know that different magnate civs "migrate" at different rates. Note: This is a different migration than the "Migrate to planet" that you can set.

Are these places a problem? You spent absolutely nothing to get them. They provide benefit while they're yours. If they're lost, you've lost nothing overall; if they grow, you've gained a nice free colony on a planet that was probably Red 2 for your natural race.

Ok then. :)
It seems like the Darlocks and the Alkari "migrates" the most.

Nothing. It just takes forever, and there's nothing there when you get there. At least, I've visited one black hole and two neutron stars and not found anything.

Well, I have a scout en route to a black hole. In 9 turns I will know more.
:D

Don't Magnates go forth and multiply only if you have the "Use Force Labor" empire wide policy turned off ? Otherwise I think they are just used up for their labor and slowly die off without colonizing anything ?

Dont think so. I have the forced labor policy set to "on" and still get a a bunch of Alkari and Darlock colonies.

At what level?

Forced labor does not work on magnate civs. You will have a special planet special called forced labor. As well as forced labor when conquering a planet. The magnate civs will grow and even colonize other planets, while forced labor wears out after a while, depending on how high you have the setting.

Got a few more settling questions.

I had a magnate planet in my home system, at the start of the game it was fully populated. I marked it as "colonize", but my first colony sheep didn't land. After a few turns I sent it for some other system. Any method for taking these magnates ?

What are differences between a colony and an outpost ? Are outposts cheaper in some way ?

My viceroys use to settle system planets using interstellar colony sheep. Can I correct this behaviour ?

Most Magnate civ planets are yellow or red for your race. A yellow planet will take two colony ships to claim for your empire and a red planet will take four. Once you have claimed it as your colony the Magnate race will start to grow. My recommendation is to leave them alone at this point so the pop will be predominantly that of the Magnate civ who treats that world type as green.

As their pop grows they will go out and found colonies on planets that match their homeworld. These planets are either yellow or red to your race but are treated as green when your magnate civs colonize them.

The difference between colony and outpost is in the number of colonists. As soon as there are more than 1000 colonists of your race on a planet it will become a full colony. An outpost usually starts with around 100 colonists. It will display your color over the planet but will not be able to build anything before it's a full colony, and it cannot be attacked. However, enemy colonyships can land on your outpost and claim that planet (I think whoever has 1000 colonists first on the planet gets it, as well as the remaining colonists of the other empires).

as for the colonyship that didn't land: were there any foreign ships in orbit? you cannot land a colonyship on a planet as long as there are enemy ships nearby (sometimes even allies prevent landing).
