There are lots of free image editors on the net that will do the job. (I used PSP 7, not free however)

as Eddie pointed out. You can use PSP7 to set the background transparent. you can use the trial Version of PSP7 .

You can also use microsoft photo editor (comes with MS office) to do this. But why don't you use the avatar Eddie made for you? It's background is transparant...

It still isn't working, now it just has a white background.

You've saved it as a JPEG, you need to save the pic I attached as a gif to get transparency.

I think I see what's happened, you've accidently uploaded one of your own non-transparency gifs instead of the one I attached - save the attachment again and make a note of where it gets saved to.

Ok, we'll try a different way of doing this.
Go into your user CP and where it says something like "enter URL of avatar" put this:

http://colonial.port5.com/avatar.gif

You've got me stumped as to why your computer can't seem to save the attachment correctly.

By the way i use a a few different machines (school, two computers at home) all are Dell's though. Internet Explorer.
