I can't find another place for this please move if it belongs somewhere else

(I know PHP, HTML and SQL so I would be able to make this game)

The game I am looking to make is a cross between Utopia LINK and Civilization 3 LINK (it would help you to understand some of what I am saying if you have played either of these games). It would use the same user interface as Utopia, and most of the features, but to make it unique (which I have heard many people say to others when they are asking for advice on their websites) it would be a "real" version instead of fantasy, and use some of the features from the PC strategy game Civilization.

The actual aim of this game is to work together with a team (could have any name, Empire, Kingdom etc.) to try and get your account to the highest Networth/Size and also to have fun. To do this, you will begin with a certain amount of Land and Money, Build buildings and train a Military to try and capture more land. You will work with a small group of other players as a team, and your team will be able to join alliances, and use other diplomacy skills to try and get to the top.

When beginning the game, you will chose a Civilization (Romans, Egyptians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, or Carthaginians) each with its own Strengths and Weaknesses and select an extra Characteristic (Militaristic, Commercial, Scientific, Industrious, Agricultural, Religious, Expansionist) which will also give you an extra bonus.

You will then be randomly assigned to another group of players (around 5-8 other players), who, if you want to survive you will have to work together with to make your Kingdom more powerful. You begin with a certain amount of land in a protected status (others will be unable to attack you) where you will us your gold and land to build builings and train a military, so that you will be able to protect yourself when you come out of your protected status.

When you come out of the protected status, you can use the military that you built up to capture more than from enemies and then to grow stronger and more powerful.

My Question to you now is:
Would people actually play this game and do you think it is worth making?

There's text-based online games like this. I've seen a couple, but I think it's more 1 person runs 1 kingdom.

You run your own Kingdom, but your Kingdom is in a group with other kingdoms so you can work together.

I have also seen other games like this, but they are all fantasy, what I am trying to create is a Civlization style game which mimics real history.

Well, your description isn't exactly "new" or "exciting". Maybe if you could get to the point where you had screenshots, or a beta or something, then you might generate some more interest.

Mauer: The point of this post was to see if other people would play it, and whether it was worth coding, but I think you are right, I'll start making some "fake" pages (unworking pages with fake stats), for people to look at and comment on.

I've tried of few of these HTML kingdom games Before, and they're quite fun! If you were to make one I'd gladly join up.
FOr those who've never heard of these, I recomend trying out Sorren and Starkingdoms (if they still exist) to get the overall flavor of this.

The above link shows the beginnings of the Buildings Page, and the Layout, hopefully it should start to give you an idea of what I'm doing.

I will try and make some more soon.

The only thing I really don't like is being forced into an alliance with other players. You could get some really good people to work with, but you could also get people who just absolutely do not want to work with others and thus would ruin the game for you.

Instead, you could let people setup alliances when they wish to, but limit the maximum people allowed in one. You could vote to kick someone out, invite people in, and some other ideas I haven't thought of yet. ;)

Most of these have some kind of "away mode" you can set up that makes you invincible for a period of time so you don't have to worry about it on vacations. Of course, limits are put into place to keep players from abusing it.

Thrawn: The Main point of the group of other players is to stop you getting killed straight as you leave protection. Still, I have thought of a way to get around this, and if the game goes ahead I will use this instead of the old idea, but I am still developing the idea in my head.

I just don't like the idea that you could get stuck with players who just absolutely do not want to work with others, no matter how weak they may be. Even getting stuck with one player like this could ruin the entire thing. :(
