Making Fictional Flags

China

Says China with the Huaxia name instead of the Zhongguo one

Seal is of the qing dynasty which isn't appropriate, but it's the one nice-looking one with transparant background I could find

being taller than its wide is intended

Randian Triumvirate

3Rands.png

Backstory:

On November 3rd, 1964, a small and secret meeting is held in Bethesda, Maryland, between three parties. It is decided at this meeting that President Johnson must be removed from office by any means necessary. The United States is not only weak in the face of red aggression, it is itself turning into a socialist country! That is from the perspective of the three participants.

To extinguish the flames of socialism engulfing the United States, they form the Randian Triumvirate. They are: Ayn Rand, author and philosopher, the RAND Corporation, American policy think-tank and, Sperry Rand, computer manufacturer and military contractor.

The white, yellow, and black color scheme comes from the an old Russian flag as Ayn Rand was born in Tsarist Russia (though later than the flag's use.) The dollar sign in the computer is also a tribute to Rand's Objectivist philosophy.

The purple is what the RAND Corporation uses now in its logo, which is not an exact match but I just kind of picked the color in a hurry and didn't care too much about it. The missile launcher is also a nod to the RAND Corporation as they originally dealt with a lot of foreign policy/military issues.

Last, but not least, the computer and stars are a recognition of Sperry Rand, a company that made big computer systems. The stars are kind of similar to the ones used in the company's logo, but not an exact match.

I'm not happy with how this turned out; I think I need to make some adjustments. But, I decided to share it with you all anyway. After all, it's more the thought that counts and I just thought having three things all "Rand" would be a fun concept to work backwards with. With everything, I could have spent more time on it to get it to be better, but I don't hate how it looks now.

It's a little bit on the odd edge given up until now I've posted more plausible (?) scenarios or ideas. This one's a little different, but working with the idea was fun.

United Soviets of America

Backstory:

President George Bush tries to explain to ABC's Sam Donaldson his administration's failure to curb inflation, now at 21%, with a smile

RWR.jpg

"I am paying for this microphone, Mr. Green!"

The sentence that ended Ronald Reagan's political career.

The backlash against Reagan that day in New Hampshire gave George Bush the upper hand and he swept the Republican primaries to face off against the unpopular Jimmy Carter. Less charismatic and more aloof than Reagan, George Bush would win only by a razor-thin margin to become the 40th President of the United States on January 20th, 1981.

This lack of charisma didn't help things for President Bush: he was unable to pass any meaningful legislation with a hostile, Democratic-controlled House and his foreign policy blunders continued to pile up; the failed attempt to negotiate a release of the hostages in Iran, openly supporting the Argentinian junta's invasion of the Falkland Islands, and a bungled invasion of Grenada only continued to make things worse for the United States.

By 1984, the American public was ready for change. Walter Mondale, former Vice President to Jimmy Carter, was nominated and swept to a 49-state victory with Bush winning only his home state of Texas.

January 20th, 1985: Walter F. Mondale succeeded George H.W. Bush to become the 41st President of the United States. As it was a Sunday, a small inaugural ceremony was held and the televised speech and ceremony would be held the next day.

At approximately 8:45 PM, newly-inaugurated President Mondale pulls out a small pocket radio and turns it on.

... GUM IS ON SHOE ...

... F-Z ... 129-407 ...
... GUM IS ON SHOE ...

January 21st, 1985: News cameras from around the country are gathered at the United States Capitol as President Mondale is about to deliver his inaugural address.

President Mondale approaches the lectern and signals to a man nearby. The man approaches with an envelope and hands it to the President.

Opening the envelope, the President speaks: "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw capitalism forever. The world revolution begins in five minutes."

Commentary

This flag is more designed around the story; an inverted 1980 election where Bush wins a landslide over Reagan, blows it in his first term, and loses to KGB asset Walter Mondale. Yes, creative liberties were taken with history. No, Walter Mondale was not a KGB asset. He wasn't even an asset to Carter.

Great concept @amadeus ! :) This can be incorporated into a Civ mod !! :) It would be awesome like when for example You play as Americans and change civics to communism, Your flag changes as well ;) Unfortunately I have no idea how to make it so.

@AdamCrock, I haven’t played Civ (except Civ II!) in a while. I have up to 5, but not 6. 5 churns enough on my laptop!

Rather than just a socialist revolution in America, I like the whole story idea of an inverted Cold War where the NATO nations fall to communism and capitalism thrives in the Eastern Bloc.
