Have you tried looking on ebay? The intrnet auction site?

I normally look there before I look around the retail shops, if i want something for my PC.

It is a bit hit and miss, but you could probably get a copy within a month.

You should always make a copy of the original CD when you get a game or a program, and then use the copy for your regular use. Store the original in a safe place, in case you ruin the CD copy.

BTW, copying CDs for your own use is not a crime in any way in America, despite the dark innuendoes and threats made by the greedy software companies. It is a crime to sell or distribute copies without permission, however.

One more thing. I personally patch the .EXE file in most programs to eliminate the need for a CD when running the game. You will lose the wonder movies, animated advisors, throne room, & similar multimedia stuff, though. I never look at that stuff anymore anyway, but can use a CD anytime I really want to see it.

I bought my version of mutiplayer gold at walmart for 6.99. it is in the section of older games. It comes in the cd case only there is no box or instuctions. WHo cares it is only 6.99 what a great deal!

I tried downloading software from kaza but I could never get it to work. I get music and movies there but the software never unzips. Is there something I should be looking for when downloading software?

I'm probably behind the times, but what is "kazaa"? And where is it? Sometimes people PM me about downloading Civ II, and I reply that you must buy it, like at WalMart, CompUSA, etc. and usually look on the sale rack.

Kazza is a napster clone that allows you download music software and movies. Nice difference is if a download fails or your pc locks up, the partial file is saved and you can resume when you reboot and log back in. I download most of the new movies that are still in the theater a week after they have been out. Some times the audio and the video images are not that good but you can see the movie. I have tried to down load software but I have never gotten it to work here's the link.

Oh yea just an F.Y.I most files are rather large at least the movies are. You will need a good connection. I have DSL so if I connect with someone which also has a good connection I can download 300mgb in about 1.5 hrs. I don't share the files I download with anyone so I realy don't consider this stealing as some people might.

Ahhh... I understand now. I've never used napster, but am thoroughly familiar with all the design and legal stuff about it.

In a nutshell, Kazaa seems to be a front-end program that allows users to meet and share files. In any event, the result would be avoidance of paying for the game itself. In a lot of cases, "Try First" is a very good thing, and personally, I think all companies should allow users of computer software to have some sort of free trial, since the value cannot be assessed from looking at a CD, or seeing selective art on a box.

In the specific case of Civ II, I think people should definitely go buy it, even if they "start out" with a "free" downloaded copy. The game is worth the $6 to $19 USD cost , and it helps support the Authors.

That is correct but its actualy a peer to peer connection which allows the transferring of files of any type really. You can transfer files exactly the same way using ICQ only Kazza allows you to search the all of the users on line for files located within a specific shared folder on a persons hard drive. Like I said I never got the doftware to work from Kazaa

hmmm, all the file sharers have died. After napster, there were few cool ones, like WinMX, but as soon as that became popular the servers got overcrowded and it became WAY to slow....

darn not enough room :ak47: I can't download civ II from kazaa as I do not have enough room on my hardrive to run it.
