So, let's be fatalistic here:

What do you think will be mankind's ultimate demise (i.e. what would end human civilization as we know it)? How do you think human history will end?

For example:
World War? Global Warming? World Hunger? Alien attack? Deus ex machina? Other? What do you think...?

(If you think human civilization will never crumble, what do you think could make it crumble?)

Sin.

Though a massive nuclear world war would be kinda neat to watch, in a sadistic sort of way.

Me not completing this teaching assignment by 4 pm today :(

I doubt anything could really kill off humanity at this point in the game. Even if a big asteroid was going to hit the earth top government officials would hid in a bunker protected from the impact until the dust leaves the atmosphere. Of course there's the question if we would want humanity to survive after such a catastorphic event our numbers would be low and we would take thousands of years to regain our previous power, instead we could just go down in dignity.

Shadylookin: If Johnny got his gun has taught me anything, its that there is no dignity in death.

I think that a nuclear holocost is the most likely. While the other things you listed may occur, they will not likely wipe out the human race.

Similar to a recent thread on the end of the world. Powers will cycle through growth and decline. With rising populations and finite resources the prognosis for short-term exploitative capitalism is not promising. Although the end of civilisation may take much time to unfold the quality of life would have been compromised much earlier on. I guess my name's not Dr. Pangloss.

Well, if you havent already; look up endofworld.swf on google or something similar, it shares my thoughts on the whole end of the world thing.

Sterility. Sperm count in men world wide has been plummeting for decades. Nobody knows why this is happening, or how to stop it.

Probly because we get laid more often than we would in the wild.

it won't end. we'll eventually be smart enough to stop polluting as we do, and by the time the Earth is unliveable, we'll have the technology to move to a different planet. we may stop evolving, however, as we are already perfectly adapted to our enviroment(we adapt our enviroment to ourselves, we don't adapt ourselves to our enviroment). but if we aren't smart enoguh to stop polluting then that'll probably kill us.

If it doesn't happen in my lifetime, I don't care.

I think the human race as we know it will end sometime around 2400, at which point most all humans will be more machine than human, and thus be "ex-humans" and no longer human. Machines will be our intellectual heirs and surpass us in intelligence as soon as 2050... by 2100 they will be entirely self-sufficient and self improving.

Let's face it. Civilisation today would be unrecognizable to a person living 2000 years ago. I would take a leap of logic and say that the future is not only more unpredictible than we know, it's more unpredictible than we can imagine.
