Map download weirdness

Okay, I don't know if this is a Mac issues, a map issue, a CivFanatics forum issue, a browser issues, or what. But since this forum seems to deal broadly with Mac, I'll ask it here. I am not terribly computer literate (as you may soon gather), so I'm hoping this is some simple issue that I'm just too much of a doofus to figure out on my own.

This is my first time back to CivFanatics in forever, and there are lots of new goodies to try out. But I keep running into something weird when I try to download Civ3 maps. The .bix files (which I know I can't use) download and unzip just fine. But the links to self-advertised .bic files open an alert in my browser: "Doesn't know how to handle files of this type; please choose an application." And then it downloads "application.php."

All the info I know to give you: I'm running OS 9.0. I've downloaded and installed 1.29beta2 (no issues by 1700AD on my first game -- hurrah!). I've tried downloading with both IE 5.1 and Netscape 7.0, and I keep getting the above result.

From what I've been able to gather by consulting other threads in this forum, I should be able to use .bic files, shouldn't I? (I only tried downloading the .bix files to see if the same thing happened there -- and it didn't.)

So, what's up with this?

And then it downloads "application.php."

Very common, just change .php to .zip and it wil unzip to the map file.

...and, please, how I can use any downloaded map? [I said JUST THE MAP].
I have to drop it into map folder, and then?

thank to you that answer...

You have to place it in your scenario folder and load as scenario. I have no idea why we have a map folder, unless its just for storage.

You can only load .bic maps (Civ3), not .bix maps (PTW).

Thanks dojoboy,
but also if I mounted 1.29b, I can't load any map, neither as scenario. [for example Canada, or China - the lasts I tried to load].
thay all are .bic files....

Hmm. Email them to me (check your PM messages for my email address).

Thanks for the php/zip tip! Works great now!

Ah, now I'm addicted to Civ3 all over again. :D
