Map from Hell

Finally beat the map. Got a space race victory sometime in the first decade of the 2000's. It wasn't even close ...

Thx to all who checked out the map and especially those who humored me in the forums.

Well done, you beat me to it.:)

I'm still not sure how to go with it. Currently i have a defence packt with Mongolia (that should prevent wars for the time beeing) I think I will also go for a space win now.

It is a challenging map for sure, best one I played for a while, so thanks for that.

I'm officially done with this map.

I refined my earlier method and beat it this time with a cultural victory in 1995. I think this marks my first cultural victory in BTS. Anyhow, I'm plain tired of this map, and I think I need a break from civ for awhile. Maybe next time I start playing, I'll be at prince.

I managed to top out my capital's science production rate at just about 850 beakers per turn. I had 18 settled GS's and 12 scientist specialists at 0% research. With a philosophic civ, I wonder if I can get that over a thousand per turn?

Anyway, its time for a civ break!

This was noble difficulty???

Shaka must have whipped like mad (i did too... insane amounts of axes/impis)

I've never seen anything like this, around 0 AD i have 5 cities and twice his score, and i wasn't that low on power either... crazy Shaka. I messed up a lot cause i didn't expect this..(lost a city to barbs a couple of turns) but it will work in the end :p

Yeah, Shaka's freakin crazy. Its war after war with him, despite his inevitable tech deficiency. I found that figuring out what to do with him is one of the hardest things to do in the short term on this map. On both my wins, I would fight him to a standstill when our techs were about even and then when I got a decent lead on him (usually around rifling), I would beeline for his capital, take it, and make him capitulate. Having him as a vassal ended up being more feasible than taking all his cities and paying absurd maintenance costs. It also worked better than a war of extermination, as the continent is woefully devoid of luxury resources, and war weariness sets in fast, especially after you've razed your second city. Also, all the pointless wars he starts is good for like three generals. By the time I decisively deal with Shaka, I have two or three city-raider III riflemen tearing into the heart of his territory. Quickest war of the game.

If you're gonna make Shaka your vassal, and you want him to actually be useful, warmongering might be the way to go. He's horrible at peace-time building. Just make sure you attack somebody close to HIM, so you're not fighting the war all by yourself. Of yeah, be ready to hand over like 50 techs too. ;)
