Ability to add notes to the map. These notes would be able to let you name rivers, lakes, mountains, deserts, for example.

Maybe these names could be generated randomly and be tribe specific for geographical features located within your borders.
 
Yes!!! And in a multiplayer game include a way to force the other players to see what you've named areas.
 
Also, what about names for continents?

Once a landmark is named, it is used universally.

Also name regions (state/province/etc). Then through diplomacy you could limit for example a right of passage agreement to just one named location.
 
A wonderful idea ^

Perhaps there should be a certain region size that can be named (if a region is all one terrain type or if [in a smaller region], the local power wants to recognize it). Each civ could have its own "local" names (that is, the Celts might name places Dalriada, Gallia, Eire, Galicia, etc. while the Romans might name places Narbonensis, Dacia, Mauretania, etc.)
 
Wow! I like that idea, having regions and certain regions for Rights of Passage. I'm sure this could be used for other things as well.
