Map of Planet, from Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

I've been playing Alpha Centauri again recently, and couldn't find a conversion of the map anywhere, so I made one myself.

It's the exact same dimensions as the original (though there might be a mistake here or there as I was drawing it. I must have miscounted tiles here and there).

I've also tried to recreate the terrain, the positions of the grassland, plains, deserts and what I'm proud of, the landmarks (the Sunny Mesa, Mount Planet, Garland Crater, Ruins [renamed Temple of Planet because I used trees instead], Pholus Ridge, the Uranium Flats and the Geothermal Shallows are there, acting more or less like they do in SM's AC). If you want to play official games with it, you'll have to lose the landmarks (and redistribute the natural resources as well).

Anyway, I hope people enjoy the map. I'm really happy with how it came out.

[This is just a preview of a section of the map]

Looks really cool, although I've never played Alpha Centauri. I'm gonna download it and play the map sometime for sure!

What version is this map? I downloaded a Chiron map off Apolyton long ago, would appreciate an updated version for C3C.

From what I can see in the preview, it looks like you made the uber-productive Monsoon Jungle... well, poor C3C jungle. I think it would be better to distribute wheat, bonus grasslands and cows, etc. Getting cities in the Monsoon Jungle was the most important aspect when starting on that continent (normally a race between 3 factions IIRC). Or possibly, you could make forests with many game bonuses, if you want to maintain the look.

Just a suggestion though :)

Nice idea! Welcome back to Planet!

@ bad_ronald: Yea! I remember the "Monsoon discovery age" in the early game!! You're right if you want to play civ with smac rules, but this is not possible, of course; think about the energy (the "SMAC gold") bonus giving by elevation: in civ you don't have bonuses giving by hills or mountains.
For me is more funny consider the "civ Moonson Jungle" like a normal "civ" jungle (and if I found a city in it, the population is in risk of disease!! :crazyeye:  ).
The alternative is a complete modpack in which the jungles give more food then flood plain+wheat!!

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

About the monsoon jungle. I had planned to try and so something about it - I remember meaning to spread lots of tropical fruits throughout it, but I think I had the computer distribute resources and then forgot to go back and put the bonuses in.

I hope Civ 4 makes the map like AC's, with altering elevations, instead of just terrain tiles. Although I always had a bit of trouble knowing what spots would be productive.

Anyway, I have no idea what this map is supposed to be, as I though that there was no specific one map of Planet. For some reason SMAC won't install on my computer :(

You could play on random maps in SMAC, but there was also a default "Map of Planet" which came in standard or huge (kind of like the "Earth" maps that come with Civ III. This is the standard map translated to Civ III.

I am able to install and play under WinXP (if that is your OS). Try running the program in "compatibility mode" ... I use Win98/Me mode. You can do that by right clicking "properties" on the SMAC desktop shortcut and then clicking the Compatibility tab. Give it a try.
