This is my first map in Civ4 - I've done extensive modding in Civ II and some minor stuff in Civ 3, and I am relatively new to the Civ IV scene (aren't we all?).

It is an accurate map of the Moon, including the Maria basins, impact craters, mountain ranges, and so on and so forth.
EDIT: Added landmarks.

Screenshots pending. It is essentially a highlands-type map with many hills and deserts, with expanses of grassland and some river-like water for added interest.

The map is designed as the basis of the Colonisation of the Moon mod I am currently working on (see Civ 4 Creation & Customisation forum).

Current version: 1.00
Updates pending....

See what you think!

Screenshots? Just curious to see what any map looks like before I make up my mind to dl. :undecide:

This is what it looks like with normal terrain. The author seems to have plans for a conversion though.
Grassland = Maria Basalt; best terrain for improvements
Plains = Dust Plains; has most improvements
Desert = Cratered; few improvements
Tundra = Bare Rock; good for improvements
Coast = Dust Basin; sea equivalent
Mountain = Mountain; impassable
Hills = Crater Wall; some improvents
Ocean = ***not used***

Ice = Polar
Jungle = Sulci
Forest = Ejecta
Snowy Forest = Frosty Ejecta (water source)
Oasis = Permafrost (not yet placed)
River = ***not used***
Floodplain = ***not used***

aren't you gonna use water :eek:
that's the one i'm refining at the moment (coloured the water, looks good, except that all the coasts are black, had to do this to get a good colour change, and the deep ocean parts are still blue :( )
but apart from this, my oceans are going to look good :)
i'll post a thread when i finished refining them

There's no water other than coastal, Haarbal.

It was things like grassland and desert that I was thinking of... where *are* the terrain files, anyway - wouldn't mind doing some myself...

and can you replace them with dds files?

question:
could it be possible to make a mod where you started on the earth, had to make a spaceship to go to the moon, had to make a spaceship on the moonmap to get to mars and had to make a spaceship to get to the next planet ....

with unique buildings, maps, terraintypes, resources and units on every planet

Switching maps has been done in the Fall of Heaven mod. I don't know about switching tech tree and such, but I think and hope it can be done too.

I'd have thought you'd need a Test-of-Time like engine to be able to cope with more than one map.

Did you have the idea of it being a linear continuation, or did you have the idea of having more than one map in play at any one time in mind?

I know it's been talked about, but to my knowledge it hasn't and can't be done yet. When it can we'll have Underworld, Hell, ect. :D

Oh :( Must have misunderstood.

looks kewl, will try it out!

and i think the MOM freaks such as I would love being able to switch maps =)

i thought it would be a coll idea but as i don't know anything about modding (I actually bought the game after my last post) I thought the best thing I could do would be asking it here. Things like underworld (or heaven) would also be cool :)

you should be able to model the idea of maps by have a sigle map that is divided into several maps with impassible terrain.
