Map tool mods?

Are their any map tool mods available? Such as a mod that colors the in game map by CvArea identification?

AFAIK not, but that should not be toooo complicated, if e.g. signs are used (but that stresses the computer quite a bit).
What exactly do you want to do?

I need to color code the map by area... some other features would be nice too but this is my most immediate need. I want to be able to create a color overlay that helps me see which plots are owned by which CvArea by color... (just to get an idea of what exactly an "area" is and where the borders exist).

I could create such a feature myself if I knew if I was supposed to use python or SDK, which files, etc...

Not sure how an overlay would work. I know that it can be done, but don't know how to do it myself.
The only thing which I could offer at the moment is to give each plot a sign with a different colour, depending on its area. That would clutter the map up pretty badly, but if you don't have to actually play with it...
