Map Trading withe the AI

I always get a little chuckle out of this. One of the AI civs will offer to trade maps. I don't have their map, so I offer to negotiate. What do you want for this map, I ask. The AI replies 5 gold. DEAL!!!! Then a couple turns later the same leader comes back and wants to trade maps. He he.

you can make a bit of money from map-making in large games with lots of AI.

the value of a map is based on how much undiscovered land you have that they dont. i think updates on old map info is also worth something.

so if thete are a lot of AI then you can send a ship or something exploring undiscovered map, then trade off your map to everyone every few turns for 5 gold each. in the end with 10 civs you get 50 gold every few turns, more than pays for maintenence of your exploting boat.

only thing to be careful about is diplomacy, you might sometimes get "-1 you traded with our worst enemy"
