Like Space said, you should ask the question in the MapFinder thread. However, since I'm here, I will answer it. When MapFinder ask you to tell it where your autosave directory at...what did you give it? Like I have said many times in the MapFinder thread, there are three different version of Civ3 (vanilla, PTW, and C3C); therefore, there are three different program folders and three different autosave directories. If you specify the wrong one, it won't work.

For example, the last time someone who ran into the exact problem as you do now "can't write to c:\......civ.ini" file. Guess what the problem was? He told MapFinder that his autosave Folder was in drive "C:\", but he actually installed it in drive "D:\".

I kept what was there as default. C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Saves\Auto, what should have i put for civ 3 complete? and sorry about wrong thread. wasent thinkin when i posted it. and if my question was rather dumb sry as well, i am a lamen when it comes to computers. a complete lamen.

Where did you install Civ3 complete to? Btw, Civ3 complete isn't a vanilla Civ, and you are probably playing with C3C (Civ3 Conquests); therefore, the default for vanilla won't work! You need to find out exactly where your autosave folder at! Try to explore your file systems a little bits because you are probably going to need that skill for other purpose.

Hint: If you need to upload one of your .SAV game for someone to look at, how do you find it? The autosave folder just another level from there.

@FatOldGuy: Welcome to CFC! :band:

Civ III Complete IS Conquests (version 1.22....Latest) AND it loads, by default into a directory that MapFinder is not expecting.....something that begins \Program Files\Atari\.....
(Atari Folder NOT Infogrames!)

So, I bet THAT is your problem.....easy fix! :)
(viz. Change the Directory Pointer in MapFinder.....Don't need to reload Civ III Complete!)

Thanks Eman!:) I don't have Civ Complete; therefore, I have no way of knowing about those monkey businesses.

If you want to learn how to delete file, it would be best if you ask some of your friends to show you how in person. Otherwise, you may accidentally delete something that you are not suppose to, then blame me for showing you how.

Here's what I do: I open Windows Explorer and delete the "used" map files from C:\Civ3Map or wherever you moved them to, if applicable. :)

They (viz. .sav & .jpg) should be the only files in that directory plus an .htm file, used by MF to produce a report.....you can basically delete some or all the files in that directory without causing any harm! ;)

If you screw up, make sure you blame me and NOT Moonsinger! :lol:

P.s. @FatOldGuy: I like your handle! :goodjob:
