Hi, Played Civi all my life but pretty new to civ 7. I am on huge maps (continents) with 10 other civilizations and it seems every game by around 3000bc i have anothing civilization within about 8 hexes of my capital. Is this right, a known bug or, it just seems really stupid to me? Thank you

I haven't played on huge, I play standard. The civs get distributed semi-randomly. I'm assuming from your post that you're trying to have a game where you can play farther away from other civs?

Maybe do a few restarts. If you use the Imago Mundi memento (extra sight and movement on scouts) and make your first 3-4 builds scouts, you should be able to determine if the map is correct for the way you want to play fairly quickly. This is one of the best starting build orders anyway so you won't be missing out.

Civs in 7 used to forward settle much more aggressively than they do now. You'll usually see it more from Military/Expansionist leaders. Another solution could be to select which leaders you'll be facing.

Personally I like having another civ or two decently close for trade and/or war.

I just want some room to expand, I've started yet again and this time by 3000bc i have a city from one Civ that is 5 hexes away from my capital to the west and another to the west that is 9 hexes away from my capital. I think i will go back to Civ or 6, appreciate the help :)

Last hope, i checked to see if by any chance i had any mods causing issues and i don't. Realized there is a DLC i don't have and it's £25, wow. That's really expensive for an average at best game

Only other recommendation I would have to play the way you prefer is to get your settlers out ASAP. As soon as your city hits pop 5 start building them. Buy one if you managed to get enough gold. Could give you some more breathing room. Settle four more settlements as soon as you can.

I hope you find a way to enjoy it. Antiquity in 7 is the best the game has ever been in my opinion, and I've played every mainline game including a ton of 6. Good luck!

I‘ve never started that close to another civ in more than 30 games of civ 7. But I also never tried a huge map. On Standard and Small, I usually have enough space to expand to 6-10 settlements peacefully in antiquity. 15-20 if I play aggressive.
