I remember building the Spaceship in a game where I entered Industrial Age as the same time as the AI entered Modern Age. 
And I didn't even steel.

I'm personally finding this thread rather entertaining.
When I go around this site and try to encourage submissions to the Hall of Fame, I quite often run into the attitude "no, I'm not (or this game isn't) good enough for the HOF". I don't think a lot of people realize that very few people come into the HOF as great players. Most (myself included) become great players by competing in the Hall of Fame and beind helped and educated by other Hall of Famers.
Misconceptions about our arena are being fought with all the helpful advice in this thread. Nicely done, ladies and gentlemen, keep it up!

Well, I came here as a Civ3 Deity player, but I still learned a lot, especially about speeding up the pace

Wow, thanks for the advice. I was really hoping for some comments, thank you. Sorry I don't have any screenshots or saves, I post at work and play at home. If I had civ at work I wouldn't be working very much longer I think I'm getting somewhere, I know I'm much better now than I was when I started here, but as I said a few posts ago, I don't really have the focus to do all of the necessary things every turn and it starts to turn into work instead of a game.
I'm happy that this thread is entertaining, I hope I had something to do with it.

Sometimes I bring the CD to work and leave it there so I can get something done at home. I don't want to put it on my work computer. Maybe I should get a cheap laptop so I can play at lunch...
zerksees, I guess you are no longer temporarily cured? How is your car coming along? BTW, I read your whole article on taking Japan from last to first place, pretty cool.

As I say I am "nearing the event horizon", just about to cross back into the black hole of civ addiction. I have been playing about every night for the last two weeks or so. Most nights it is just an hour or hour and a half right now. I am still getting other real life things done. I am afraid of what will happen when I start a new game.
Regarding the Vette I made a lot of progress on it, and I have driven it to work four or five times. I also drive it when I have to run errands that don't require a trunk, but I still have not put 500 miles on it since I bought it. You can read all about it here
It still has a lot of little problems that need addressed. But, other problems and projects that have been put off because of Civ and the Vette are catching up with me so it has not been getting a lot of attention the last month or so. Now it is starting to get cold out and the heater controls don't work so besides the other problems I suppose I should fix them so I can drive it in the cold.
I really don't mind spending some time on civ, but I don't like when I start to let things pile up because I've neglected them because of civ. When you're sitting in one spot long enough to have cobwebs on you, then you might be playing too long.
Actually, I find an hour or two helps me relive stress that I accumulate in life by allowing me to be there instead of here. I think that's part of the reason the game is so popular, you have total control in the game and if things go wrong you can just restart.

I agree completely, the problem for me is I have a hard time shutting it off once I get it started. It is not easy to just play an hour a night, or to skip a night. It's like an addiction. Oh well - off to take on Sid!Marsden said:
And speaking of piling up! I goofed up this time! I angered my wife Sunday playing Civ for about 10 hours. I've been using a very old computer that crashes a lot. I did a disk scan and it said it had boot record errors, but they were fixed. Now I'm getting paranoid that the whole system is going to crash for good and I've got about 20+ hours invested in a large emperor game(from post #18). I was really tired and was not having a good time but I was scared to turn the thing off because my last computer(from post #3) died and that was about 2 hours from a Spaceship. Well, playing to 5:00 in the morning went over the line and now I'm of civ for an indefinite amount of time, possibly until (gasp!) January. I don't think it will go that long, but when your in trouble with the wife you start saying things that she might want to hear to get out of worse trouble. I really do feel on my own that I need some time away from it, playing for 10 hours might be standard operating procedure for some, but for me, I felt like it was work instead of play. It turns into a chore after awhile. Wake all, J move 45 cannons, move cav., move rifles, fortify all, four or five spaces between cities. Then when you get to the gate: b click artillery unsuccessful, yadda yadda yadda. Its cool and its fun but its like eating cookies, some are really good but you eat the whole bag at once and youve got a belly ache and your wondering why? until next time you do it again.

Lucky for me my wife says practically nothing about my Civ 3 habit. There are worse vices than Civ.
I would says she is cautious, not up to annoyed. She is annoyed with other things I do - but not Civ.
It's kind of interesting as it's one of those rare cross genre movies, being a horror/science fiction. The only other of that type I can think of is Alien. (the first one, in case there is confusion) It isn't at all like Alien, just that its a horror kind of movie with futuristic and space ship stuff. A little bit like the future parts of that last Hellraiser movie, but better and no jumping around in time. I think it gets rather spooky, I wouldn't call it great, but worth renting. I don't think it would carry over to tv, too much editing.
