Mechanics to reduce stack sizes

Personally I hate stack attack or anything resembling it on a subjective level. I just don't find huge stacks to be fun. Maybe it's because I enjoy micromanaging my units and grouping them into battalions and divisions and does anyone else really wish the bar for unit names was like as wide as the screen?
