Has anyone tried this? Is it still in beta? I played it for about 10 minutes a couple months ago and was extremely disappointed.

The mechwarrior franchise has been one of my favorites. MW4:Mercs is one of my favorite games and mechcommader is squad rts at its finest. It's been a long time since the last MW games. So when I heard about a new MW I was super excited. Then I learned the game was being extremely stripped down so it wouldn't have a single player campaign, only co-op multiplayer, and it wouldn't have 3rd person view.

The first thing I noticed when I played was a bunch of adds for more mechs. That whole model of free game but you buy equipment is a turn off to me. I don't mind real dlc I suppose like here's 30 mechs and oh here's a couple that come through dlc but the game only had I think 4 mechs you could play for free. Then the graphics seemed really terrible for a 2012 game. I stopped playing after 10 mins.

If you have tried it let me know how your experience was.

Free to play can work, I like it when you pay for early access or aesthetics/skins but I think MW online has implemented it really poorly. But I haven't spent enough time on it to say for sure.

Yeah I've heard the F2pay model is pretty bad.

I know the F2P is bad.
Trial mechs are undergunned, underarmoured and outclassed. Mech parts cost more then the entire mech itself, lack of content even for a mmo, and broken Match Maker.

Either spend a chunk of money or be prepared to invest a lot of time before you get your first mech, then spend ages upgrading it before you have an equal footing.

I played it a little bit. It seemed like it would be all right if you played it enough that you could start unlocking stuff for free and ideally played with some friends.

An issue seemed to be that new people like me were just plonked in the game with everyone else so there didn't seem to be any real coordination.
