mega events, where are they?

I played few games on GC2 and the first one had pirates many times. The second did not. I figured it was because I used Dark Avatar between them and turned off the events.

So I play Avatar again and enabled them, but I have not gotten any events. How far into the game do you have to go to see them? In the first game I saw them fairly soon.

I just wanted to see those stacks of ships and see the battle, but so far nothing, Anyone know what the triggers are?

Most of the mega events (such as the pirates) occur just randomly, there is no trigger for it.
I've played plenty of games before ever getting the pirates event, my estimate would be that it occured once every 10-15 games...
There's plenty of other mega events as well (e.g. increasing tourism, economy or population boosts, arrival of a new minor civilization)

You can always build your own stack of ships and go wipe out some enemy fleets

Ok, that is what I wa wondering. I guess the first game happen to trigger Pirates about 8 or 9 times. It was Dread Lords, not Avatar.
