i think this is the first thing the should patch ASAP. i mean i start the game using about 130MB then i play for a hour then the game freezes and lags, the i end the process too kill the game and then i am using about 270 MB of memory with nothing extra being used than i did when i started the game. I mena the game is realy unplayable, i really what to play for a hour reboot, play for a hour reboot, repeat, repeat, repeat, etc... anyone know if they are even aware and working on this problem?

I'm having the same problem, Fire... Kinda sux... I've replayed the same hour or so only to have it freeze up. I had to pull the power source and reboot. It froze up in such a way that it wasn't responding and a, <CTRL+ALT+DEL> + <END NOW>, was not killing the program. I restarted... reloaded... and carried on from the last autosave. I think I'm going to make it autosave more frequently...

If you hear of a fix to this problem... lemme know.

Thanks,
Billy

This is a typical "not finished yet" bug. I bet the developers knew about it the day of the final build -- if not before -- and have been trying to track it down.

I hope they do patch this problem soon. It seems pretty obvious that there is a memory leak, and I'm sure they know about it. I, err, hope..

Well it seems for me that when i put everything down to lowest setting turned of music any everything( listeding to my own anyways) it seem to help a bit i can now play for a few hours without lockup, only has happened once since i did this. yea i am also just saving evry 10 -15 turns anyways. plus i am also now just exiting the game every 1-2 hours. its a real pain in the ass but its playable.

well, cynically, you're probably right. it's not uncommon for companies to release broken product KNOWINGLY b/c not doing so costs more money in terms of missed deadlines etc than fixing the bugs later. bastards!

only 270mb, you are so lucky
After I played only half an hour, it took me 490mb physical memory and another 700mb vitural memory

I go from using allm my 512mb ram + about 100mb of virtual mem to using like all 512mb ram + about 1000 - 1100 mb virtual mem after a just like 10min or so.

My system currently uses 917 MB of RAM.
Playing Civ4 (epic settings) for about 3 hours now, and having this instance of Firefox and the taskmanager open.
Luckily, I have 1.5 GB RAM so it doesn't hurt me at the moment.

I don't know if my problem is a memory leak problem, but I notice that after playing for a bit, the game freezes and then makes all these weird sounds and then the computer resets itself.

My computer specs are:
Athlon XP 2500+ (1.8Ghz)
1.5GB RAM
Radeon 9700 PRO
Soundblaster Audigy
250 GB HDD

there is definately a problem with this I can start the Game with my 1.5 gig of ram and if I don't do any moves walk away for an hour or so and come back it has crashed to desktop... that is on the standard worlds on the huge worlds it starts to have minor problems right from the start...

Posted this in another thread, but probably better suited to be here. I had alot of lagging issue in my first standard map game, so decided to run a small test.

512 Meg RAM
GF4 Ti4600 128 Meg RAM
768 Meg pagefile

Standard map size, 6 civs, lowest detail settings, no music, no voice. Data was tracked using a performance log, sampling data every 30 seconds (I trimmed alot of the redundant fat). Committed% is the percentage of availabe RAM + available pagefile being used.
