So I started off a bannor game and swapped to basium after a few hundred turns. Got to say was pretty shoddy changing into them. My economy was absolutely stuffed. I only had 3 cities as the bannor when I swapped, but was pulling in new techs at a pretty good rate (only low difficulty), on swapping even maxed research was 4-5* as long per tech. I just gave up and let Capria do all the researching for me while building gold.

Infernals weren't actually active yet, was hoping to get a good alliance going (was amusing when a lot of people started vassalizing to me, and I took all their mana/resources) before they spawned for a nice global war effort. But the game was so against my normal style (I'm a bit of a builder) I decided to throw in the towel.

Anyone got any tips for playing basium effectively?

Get lots of good civs into wars, so you get loads of angels. Head toward Rage, as Seraphim are really really awesome.

Alternatively, build the Tower of Elements in the same city which you will eventually build the Mercurian Gate, and find the Pyre of the Seraphic, and acquire as much Fire Mana as you can.

Then as Basium, move your capitol as close to the Pyre as you can and continue to seek out Nodes to set them to Fire. Every time you get an Angel, sacrifice it on the Pyre for a Permanent Fire Elemental :) Way super strong if you swing it right.
