NO WAY. You'll have to wait until next year's draft, and hope to be lucky. :)

BTW, HigherGame, where arst thou ? I was looking forward to some explaination about South America, the only continent on which you made no comments.

Lets just give the guy his own forum, I swear I had the best laughs last week - where is he?

There should be awards given in this forum, best historical posts, funniest member etc... like the academy awards...

wonder what Higher Game would be nominated for?

hmmmmmmmmmm..... Awards? who would be the judges? The mods? You should e-mail that idea to Thunderfall. Maybe you'll get to be a judge. And it would make the wait for PTW seem less longer. Tell me when\if you mail the idea.

Good question, but we should keep it more game based. You know. Because this is already off-topic, Very off-topic. Some topics? how about: Best Given Adviceor tutorial?(for the tutorial section) And funniest thread, For the Humor Section, Best mod for the comp. Mod section, Best beta made Graphic ,for the unit section,Best history thread for the World History Forum. etc.

It really doesn’t matter just as long as we keep it related to civ.

Some ideas to help argue your topic are that it would cut down Unessential posts, help people (the tutorial one would.) Help people choose between mods for the mod award(most mods change your whole game and this would be helpful in choosing the right one.) same with the units.... most importantly it would give everyone a good laugh.(the humor award)

Africa the dark continet? Thats what the racsit Europeans thought of Africa in the 16th century.

But it wasn't called the dark continent because they were racist. Not saying they weren't racist, but that's not why it was called the dark continent. It was called the dark continent because it was still mostly unexplored by Europeans, hence on a map the interior was dark. (think of it like the fog-of-war) You have heard of "Deepest, Darkest Africa", they weren't talking about the people they were talking about the unexplored jungles of the Congo and other inaccessible regions of the continent.

my point is, for a history text to refer to Africa as the "Dark Continent" is not necessarily make the book out of date. It all depends on the context and what it says about it being the "Dark Continent".

I think that "The Dark Continent" phrase was neither Racism nor 'a unexplored interior',but an intermingling of both. Arab traders told false stories to the Europeans, So they could own the slave\resource\luxury market. None the less im sure the Europeans (of the time) half-heartedly believed them. For racist reasons... Among others.
Kal-el, Have you ever heard of a series of maps that where entitled "The maps of the Ancient sea Kings"? These maps where made in the European Dark ages, And always had Jerusalem in the center of the world. And in places they didn’t know much about, (to the east, toward the far orient)

They would have inscriptions like "Here Be Dragons". They also had the east, Where north should be. This doesn’t have much to do with the subject of European racism, but it proves they were gullible.

I love those old maps. :D

They always have sea monsters all over the place and the outlines of the continents are all askew due the lack of ariel photography or decent methods of cartography.

Maps during the middle ages had the east "on top" because paradise was there. Early maps showed Adam & Eve in paradise with a wall of flame surrounding it. The word "to orient" came from this practice. To orient a map originally meant to put the east (the orient) at the top. We now orient a map by "northing" it:lol: :egypt:

Yes, the maps are always good topic changers:D

on to another point, thunderfall said this award idea is a good one, but that we need to figure out various categories..
so if you people are interested - your input is needed...

Oh, grow up! I'm alive and well. There are enough people like me to last a life time, and that's not always a good thing. ;)

YEEEEESSS this thread is back !
But the salt of it is gone, I'm afraid... Unless HigherGame is willing to play his role again :)
But I still think we can get some toppings out of the news... Like the Hispano-Morrocoan (?) war ?
Now come on, bring it on, I want cliches and subjectivity, I want bad faith and sarcasm, I want lies and I want them good
