I was wondering, is the MGE-patch actually legal or not?
I saw some thread about this, but couldn't find it...

Thanks, Wizard

A nearby municipality, which is fairly urbanized now, has an old by-law stating that you can't wash your pig in the back lane past 6:00 pm...

I'm sure the patch is perfectly illegal, but nobody cares anymore.

When the lawyers turn up at your door, or start sending TF threatening e-mails then you should deinstall in and go out and buy MGE or whichever patch it was you were using. Until then, enjoy your civving! If you are religiously devout and refuse to have something to do with anything that is not 100% definitely legal then, er, go and buy the game you want.

Similarly, the city of Chester in England has an ancient law that states the citizenry can only shoot Welshmen with a bow and arrow within the city walls and after midnight, whereas Hereford folk are not allowed to shoot Welshmen on Sundays with a longbow within the Cathedral Close. Elsewhere in Hereford, with other weapons, and at all other times, therefore, we must assume that the shooting of Welsh people is entirely legal.

If you own the actual MGE game, it would be difficult for a lawyer to argue that you are not entitled to "downgrade" your software to a more primative version.... e.g., the MGE to Civ 2.42 patch. The other way around is a little easier, but if you own 2.42, and MGE is a standard, and it can't be bought/upgraded anymore, then it is still unlikely to lodge a decision against an individual. (IMHO) :)

In My Humble Opinion!
:D
