MGLs and the AI

Actualy there is no real good reason to sit on any leaders. It may make sense to wait a few turns for an MGL to be used, if no further elite battles are anticipated.

Maybe an SGL can be held a bit to get the next tech for a key wonder, but if you are crushing the AI so bad as to have a bunch of SGL's, what do you need to hold them for anyway?

No way the AI is getting any leaders and is probably to unproductive to build a wonder faster than you.

Come to think of it, if you have lots of leaders, abandon the game and find one that is a challenge.

No, I'd rather hold on to SGLs, if I'm planning a tech-related win (UN, Spaceship). I only get one 1000-shield pre-build (my Palace). Having a spare SGL to rush SETI or the Internet, whilst keeping the Palace pre-build for the other, is very handy.

So let me see if I get this, you want to hold an SGL till the modern ages? Because I have no problem holding one for Un or Seti, if it comes up during the modern age. If I got it back in MA, I am not holding it.

If we ignore Sid and maybe Deity, you are going to be out in front by the modern age and the AI will not have the production to beat you to a wonder and its bonus is not enough to offset its incompetence.

For players with a bunch of SGL's to hold on to, they are playing Monarch or lower. If they have several SGL's, the AI is not exactly breathing down their necks. My only shot at a SGL at Sid is to be the first to Phil and maybe Lit. So I do not have to deal with hold or not holding leaders, except MGL's which I will eventually have by the dozen. I will probably have to burn them up rushing structures, just to get rid off them for the next battle.

At Sid, yep, that SGL build the Great Library faster than a fast thing. Or Sun Tzu or Leo or whatever other GW will help you (I can't honestly think of another that might be any use at Sid, besides the Pyramids, and by the time you've got Lit, they'll have been built). At which point you're looking at using it for a Marketplace.
