DETROIT (AP) -- Michigan prison officials are making sure inmates don't get any illicit ideas from a new television series.

The state Department of Corrections has decided the Fox show "Prison Break" is unacceptable for viewing and has ordered a systemwide blackout of the series, the Detroit Free Press reported Saturday.

Department spokesman Leo Lalonde said prisoners will not be allowed to see the show, which premieres Monday, for the same reasons that inmates are not allowed to see maps of underground utility tunnels or watch movies about prison riots.

A message seeking comment was left Saturday with a Fox spokesman.

"Prison Break" is about a prison architect who has strategically gotten himself jailed so he can free his brother, who is on death row for a murder he didn't commit. The show is being filmed at a retired facility in Joliet, Ill.

To bad. I'm sure many were looking forward to watching it. ;)

Aww...poor babies...

Because as we all know, TV executives know everything about prison escapes.
Anyway, since pretty much every prison is different, if i was an inmate i wouldnt count of finding a way out from watching Tv all day.
Paranoia > reality.

What's the over/under on how long it'll take before some group will launch a lawsuit on this practice or something?

Does anyone recall the reality show where contestants were locked into a deserted prison and had to try to escape?

Nope, what was it called? sounds like fun to me, i wonder if they showed that in prisons?

Gee, what could possibly go wrong ;)

It's a TV show, so yeah, the guy didn't commit the murder. Or maybe he did and the character is wasting his time.

Self parody: learn it, love it.

Could that possibly Jailbreak. It was on Channel 5 if I recall correctly.

Im sure that I wont trust the prisoners watching "Prision break" otherwise they would get ideas .

If you were in prison, wouldn't you want to NOT watch movies about prison? Or wait, I remember watching something about Alcatraz and thr one last living guy who was a prisoner there said that if you focused on the outside world you would go insane or something.

I've been to Alcatraz and any prison today is 10 times more intimidating. Prisoners were allowed to keep personal artificats, paint, read, even in certain controlled environments, go outside. During mealtimes they were also allowed to take as much as they wanted, provided they ate it.

"The rock" is a lot more bark than bite.

Yea, it probably wasnt the worst place if you dont mind being in there, but if your one of those who enjoy not being in prison, its pretty bad, since you had zero chance of escaping alive.
If i was in prison, i wouldnt mind watching a prison escape program, although i can see how someone successfully escaping and being portrayed as the 'hero' (im presuming they are since the main character is always the hero in any TV program) would make you feel rubbish. Unless of course your planning on escaping soon, then it'll give you hope.
