I've spent the past 2 days playing this game, and still can't get a hold to it.
The automation wagon is a nightmare-- the city is either empty or too full.
I usually play prince on Civ4, but now i am having difficulties beating piligram because I don't know where my tools/guns are...
anyone having similar problems?

I play with manualling trade wagons. When it is not necessary to collect goods between cities, I just skip their turns. Yes, I agree micromanagement is a pain if you have a lot of settlements.

Don't just use "Auto Wagon".
Use the Settlement Governor, to set what goods you want to Import/Export and how much you want to keep (if you exporting). Then you can assign Wagons to trade routes.
It does work a lot better than just Automate.
Still worse than manual... But manual becomes boring quite fast.

this.
totally agree.

Word ^. Micromanaging those little buggers can get asinine. Just setup your import/exports and let everything run in the background. Micromanage other things if you desire
