Military advisor - what use is it?

I don't know about you guys, but I go into the military advisor and what do I find there? A list of how many of each different unit type I've got and some dumb, heavily pixelated mini-map.

There are all the different Civs represented at the top but clicking on them does nothing. There is no way to see even see WHERE your units are stationed, Civ3 at least showed you what you had in each city. And what the heck is the map doing there?

Apart from the breakdown of your units, there's just no helpful info at all and nothing to do in there. Did the programmers just get tired and throw in a map to take up the rest of the screen or something? And the thing takes ages to load, especially if you have AA enabled.

The more I play this game, the more frustrated I'm becoming with the poor design features and the finicky interface. This is a much worse designed game than Civ3. In fact I'm collating a list of all the missing or dud features in Civ4, which I may eventually post here. It's going to be a long one...

Did you try clicking on the unit names?

I just tried it. It caused my PC to reboot. Is that what's supposed to happen?

Yes. It's a design feature.

Seriously, it's supposed to bring up flashing dots to represent where on the map units of that type can be found.

I would agree with the original poster that the military advisor has limited uses so far. Unless I have not found the new keystroke to make it easy, I used to use my military advisor screen in Civ3 to Upgrade all my units.

You can select a unit type or even shift-select multiple types.
Hint: What happens when you click on one of those "blinkers" on the map? :nudge: :nudge:
