Ren:

So people know what you'd like to do and when, why don't you start a new thread after each group of turns.

So for this, start a military thread 1816 and speak about what you'd like our forces to do. Then a different one after the next set.

I think that would be easier and others would know that there is some new military information to take part in.

And I agree that apart from a few forays against the English and Romans that are on OUR islands, the Mongols should be the civ we continue to concentrate upon. Once we have a nice pet for you, we can feed that city all of our science and lessen our own turns to tech.

Plus, it'll be FUN to crush our 'ol buddy Genghis. :)

Attention Fanatica! The Roman navy is flooding our waters outside Dellsville and Spicehaven, hunting down our defensless engineeers! If they send more ships, they will even be able to threaten our cities directly. These atrocities can not be allowed to continue any further. Our glorious nation must protect its own shores! Should we redirect the mighty battleship UFS Dell (the one outside Kabul) to help clear our territorial waters from Roman infestations?

With the later help of UFS Marlborough we might even be strong enough to capture Rome. Our mortal enemies are still researching combustion, so if we strike in the near future their navy will be inferiour to ours. If we wait until they start sending battleships and tanks against us, an invasion will be much harder. Some newly produced armour and howitzers from the Triton province will make things even easier. :)

Edit: Some spelling mistakes

I say send a Battleship there to help clear the waters of the Roman navy, but lets finish off Mongolia first. That should be first priority of our navy. However, given that their new capital is landlocked, our navy may be looking for something to do ;). Will we need an increased naval presence around England as well? Seems we could use another Battleship or two and a couple more (at least) cruisers

Sending one of the battleships along with the cruiser perhaps could keep Livia's forces at bay long enough for us to "finish up" elsewhere.

I'd like to keep one battleship nearby, however, for two reasons.

1. Kabul is an easy target. With no coastal fortress, we can basically pick it off anytime we wish. There is a transport in Karakorum that could take some units to the Kabul once the battleship clears the debris.

2. It may be nice to have the battleship around to clear away some of the partisans that will contine to pop up around Mongol lands when we take cities.

I agree that the Romans should be the ones to go soon. With The English and Mongols in Fundy and the Germans and Zulus so small that they can't do anything, the Romans are pretty much doing the reasearch for the rest of the world and then giving everything away.

Plus, I'd love to finally get the Pyramids in Rome. :)

It would be nice to crush the puny Mongolians but after that we should be going after those evil Romans as they apparently are the greatest threat at the moment.

We should definitely carry the fight to the Romans and soon! I think that we shouldn't need a large fleet anywhere near the Mongols soon as their last cities will not be as large as the main island cities and will fall relatively easily. Since we want to keep a pet city from those they have left then we won't need to totally annihilate them. The Romans, on the other hand, will need some "persuading" that their way is not the right one. Resistance is futile - you will be bombarded! We should direct the navy westward (To deal with the Ho ;)) and control any Roman incursions while we prepare a proper invasion of their lands.
I'm not sure that the Pyramids would be such a blessing at this point in the game though Kev, especially having seen that Olympia is at :D = 5, :) = 6 and  = 5 or so. One more citizen there could spell all kinds of happiness trouble. We should only need to grow through celebration at this point, but denying the Romans the Pyramids would be important too. :goodjob:

Well, I was more interested in the Pyramids to help the smaller and newer cities catch up and grow a bit quicker. The new ones won't celebrate until size 3, and the Pyramids can help that along.

OK, looks like the Romans will be a nice new target. There are still going to be some Mongol cities to track down, but the Roman technology fire sales are bumming me out.

Let us pay Livia a little visit!

Romans are giving away techs too easily and thereby they allow other civs to somewhat keep up in the tech-race. That's dangerous as other civs will get their hands on military units we don't want them to have (armor, battleship). However with the amount of cities we have we should be able to put out so many units all other civs will start crying for their mummy :D

I really hope that you have that transport full of howies protected by a warship Kev. I was reading the report (excellent again by the way :goodjob:) and just kept thinking "warship, warship" whenever you mentioned the transport. It would be awful if a German cruiser or even ironclad were to leave one of their cities and destroy a fully-laden transport o' howies. :( Apart from that I am delighted at the strength of our navy and am sure that we can start gaining vet status for many of our ships by picking off the Roman and Zulu vessels.

How do people think that we should conduct war against all the enemies we have at the moment? I'm not entirely sure but I reckon that we're at war with everyone at the moment and althought they do not pose a serious threat, if they somehow managed to conquer one of our cities then they could be right back in the tech race. :( Our homeland is safe but the outlying colonies could become victim to some tech-stealing.
The Germans are currently researching Combustion and would appear to be the closest to Flight, but the Romans would get it pretty soon afterwards. Once we can eliminate the major research cities of these two empires then the other civs will be left behind. I'd like to be able to have a kegger in the ruins of Rome before we're able to fly out there on holiday. Once we do have advanced flight then we should definitely build an airport in Beijing and one on each of our borders so that we can get troops to the frontline quickly. :goodjob:

I have to admit, the transport is running solo at this time. I was in speed mode, and at the time I was going to make a quick strike on Hamburg and have the units hole up there until an escort was ready.

Although Hamburg has 8 units in it, 3 are mobile including a diplomat and two engineers. I still think that taking the German capital can be to our benefit, and now it will make even more sense because if we are to be safe with the units we'd have to send them back to Canton to await a warship.

We can easily back up the transport and do a "land and attack" by the capital. The AI is hapless in these dealings, and I feel pretty confident that there would be no counter attack from the city - or pretty much anywhere else. Of course, I can't guarantee this, but what's life worth if you can't take a few risks :)

The spies on the German mainland could easily then buy up very nice cities with all of their improvements - and do so cheaply. The Cure for Cancer would be great to have, and the cities should be nice producers and help provide units for our Roman campaign. I'd estimate a total of about 5 or 6 turns to totally do away with the Germans.

However, if we wish to leave the Germans alone for now, that's fine and we can either take a chance and try to get the transport to Lugdunum or Heidelberg or send it back to Canton and rush a cruiser or other ship somewhere.

In Mongol lands, Genghis has enough cash to rush another capital so I'm confused as to why they haven't. I think we should bribe a few cities on the continent to the north and at least have a base there with "built in" defense before 'ol Genghis gets his act together. We can move our 4 howies up there later and beat them down to pet status.

I'm also thinking why no defender with the Howies? You should always send at least an Alpine troop, if not armor or something along to defend your stack of howies just in case. You never know when a partisan might get brave or lucky, or a wandering Cavalry supported from a different city might be in just the right place. I would strongly suggest future howie attack forces carry at least one good defender with them.

I would support taking out the German capital, but beyond that moving the bulk of our military efforts against the Romans. The Mongols are not a threat and we can slowly grind them down as opportunities present themselves. Without a capital, the Germans will become even less of a factor, and we can buy up their cities as Kev suggests. We need to hit the Romans hard to at least decrease their science rate significantly. Once they're beat down a bit we can decide who to finish off first. By then I suspect we'll be able to field enough units to do it all at once if we choose :D
