What should our military do next? I think it's fairly obvious that we should take Cumae (I'm thinking about razing it though). But then, should we continue fighting the Romans or should we attack German Berlin?

We could attack Antium, and later on Rome and Ravenna, and we'd be in complete control of the Roman territory. (They might have some small cities left, but those wouldn't be that hard to destroy). The downside of this plan is that Cumae and Munich would have terrible cultural pressure on them from Berlin, and the Germans would have time to improve their defences. Positive about this plan is that we'll capture the Buddhist shrine in Rome, and that the plan is relatively save, we'll stay friends with Bismarck and Julius will die. We could also basically stop military production for now, we'd probably only need a few more macemen to execute this plan.

On the other hand, we could attack Berlin. We would attack Cumae first, and then sue for peace with Julius, hopefully in exchange for Feudalism and some cash. After that peace deal, we'd attack Germany, and go straight for Berlin from Munich. We'd also have a new stack being produced in our heartland going for the southern German cities like Essen. The downside of this plan is that it keeps Julius alive, and possibly dangerous longer. It will also mean that we'll have to continue building military to beat the Germans. However, the plan is potentially very strong. Berlin is a great city, with gold, wines, cows, horses and flood plains and best of all, it has the pyramids (and probably an academy too). If this plan is executed well, we are basically the uncontested rulers of our continent. Another advantage is the proximity of the German cities, this would reduce upkeep there.

I like the Cumae > Bismark idea. But then we should press on and wipe Bismarck of the map.

The large amount of gold that we are losing in maintenance makes me think that we should end this war before things get out of hand, we've accomplished our goal, grabbing some good cities while they were vulnerable, and hurting the Romans, so that their expansion into Germany would be slowed.

I would support an attack on Cumae, so that we may get more advantageous peace terms, but after that I think our military should rest.

Well, our military is basically paying for itself through the yields of capturing cities. I think we should try to continue fighting, as we don't need our production for anything else at the moment, and the wars will be relatively profitable for us.

The chances we have now might not be there later.

So, what shall we do? Poll?

I think the occupation period will decide, as the remanining troops is needed to pacify Cumae. I think we shall seek peace, but prepare for a rejection of our terms. We still need to reshape gears in Civ 4, as occupation lasts longer here than civ3.

Another TC, another time for discussion

First Cumae; keep it or raze it (not very good, not very bad) unless its garisson

needs drain our strenght, if so raze.

Then go Germain, begin with Berlin; whip Germain. Strike a temporary peace

with Rome, or not, as your military power dictates.

Anyway, Germans then Romans; more or less south towards north.

Try to request all troops needed, but not too many. Troops must come from

1/2/3 (?) powerful cities. Let the commercial cities (like EA) to build the

economy. Keep the good cities you conquest, if you can, and raze the

useless (someone said Pisae?).

Best regards,
